'In Utero' is the third and final studio album by the American rock band Nirvana. It was released on September 21, 1993, by DGC Records. After breaking into the mainstream with their second album, Nevermind (1991), Nirvana hired Steve Albini to record In Utero, seeking a more complex, abrasive sound that was also reminiscent of their debut album, Bleach (1989). Although frontman and lyricist Kurt Cobain claimed that the album was "very impersonal", many of its songs contain heavy allusions to his personal life and struggles, expressing feelings of angst that were common on Nevermind.
The album was recorded over two weeks in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. After recording finished, rumours circulated that DGC might not release the album due to Albini's uncommercial sound. The album was mastered by Bob Ludwig to achieve a more desirable sound for both Nirvana and their label. The band later hired producer Scott Litt to remix the singles "All Apologies", "Heart-Shaped Box" and "Pennyroyal Tea", to Albini's dismay.

CONDITION - the unlaminated cover is somewhere around VG with some signs of age and use etc. as follows; some storage record-shaped impression and a little related rubbing; a few (approx 7/8) small lines/crinkles by the spine; thumb/handling ripple at middle of side opening and at bottom right area; 2 or 3 tiny nick/nibbles by side opening; very small amount of corner rubbing; a bit of rubbing to print on the spine;  I have uploaded lots of pictures, taken under a window and at various angles, so please make sure that you hover over/enlarge all pics so hopefully you can see what I have just described - please see all pictures above. The inner sleeve also shows some signs of age with some general handling signs, some outer rim storage wear, some corner bends and some handling lines/signs to top middle area - but no major damage or problems (no splits, tears, rips, writing etc.) The record is visually VG with a light (non feelable) surface mark on tracks 2/3 of Side One (at about 7 o'clock), a similar light (non feelable) surface mark on track 1 Side One at about 12 o'clock and a very light (non feelable) surface mark on last 2 tracks of Side Two. There are also a few very light and hairline surface marks dotted about to each side. I have not played this LP for quite a while now but it played through just fine the last time I did! Also note that due to the colour of the vinyl, it's not as easy to spot any defects etc. as if it was a standard black pressing, but I have had a close look under a very bright halogen bulb and could only see what I have just described.

UK and overseas buyers - please note that due to the rarity of this item, I will only send fully tracked and insured within the UK and either by Tracked & Signed For service or by eBay's Global Shipping Programme overseas - also note that any fees which may be charged by ebay are imposed by them entirely and any customs fees/import duties or taxes are down to the laws of your country, not me, and are to be paid by the buyer - I have no say or influence as to how much any further costs, if any, may be and will not mark as a 'gift' or put a lower price on the customs declaration, sorry! If in any doubt, please investigate if there will be any further costs to you BEFORE bidding.

Please see all pictures above and if you have any questions or need any more info., don't hesitate to get in touch.

Cover and labels are as seen in the pictures above (actual item shown) - see below for record grading, which obviously applies to records which have been played ONLY!

Please note that all vinyl is visually graded under a bright halogen bulb - it is only play-graded if specifically stated.

POSTAGE AND PACKING

UK - £4.95 by Royal Mail Tracked 48 or £5.95 by Royal Mail Tracked 24. 'Signed For' is extra.
ELSEWHERE - please select the 'Postage & Payments' tab, then choose your country from the drop-down menu and click on 'get rates'.

VINYL GRADING

NEW: note that still sealed items will be presumed to be in 'new' condition, but are obviously sold as seen. Any visible signs of wear/storage etc. beneath the shrinkwrap will be mentioned.

MINT: note please note that I will NEVER use the 'MINT' grade, as I think you are asking for trouble! The highest grade for an item that is not new will use will be NM (Near Mint).

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in very close to 'as new' condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in almost perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played a number of times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and maybe some occasional light scratches. If there is any surface noise it will be occasional, light and unobtrusive. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has obviously been played a lot and while it still plays through OK, it will have a lot of surface marks and/or light scratches (maybe also the occasional 'feelable' scratch) and most likely there there will be regular and noticeable surface noise. The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine and/or seam splits, discoloration, etc.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

*Important* - the ONLY countries I will send to by uninsured mail are as follows: -

  • UK.
  • Europe (EU countries ONLY and Norway).
  • USA and Canada.
  • Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

If you live anywhere else then your parcel MUST be insured, the cost of which is to be covered by the buyer. Very sorry, but NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

If you live in a country that I am prepared to send by regular, uninsured mail please bear in mind that I always get a receipt and proof of posting for every item sent, but THERE WILL NOT BE A TRACKING NUMBER UNLESS YOU HAVE PAID FOR INSURED/TRACKED MAIL. Should an item take longer than expected to arrive, I will do everything I can to help, but please don't assume that there is a tracking number! Most overseas buyers seem to assume this, for some reason! If you want the item to be tracked, please choose the 'International Signed For' option at checkout - thanks!

Finally, please note that if your item (or if the combined values of the items in a single parcel) is £20.00 or above, then insurance is compulsory wherever you live. This is an extra £1.10 for 'Signed For' in the UK (up to the value of £50, after which extra cover will need to be paid for by the buyer) or an extra £5.30 for overseas buyers to cover 'International Signed For'.
