This is an exceptional 1st Mono pressing of THE STORY OF SIMON SIMOPATH in stunning condition, that plays brilliantly from start to finish. You will be very hard pressed to find a 1st pressing of this album that plays with such depth and clarity!

The Story of Simon Simopath is the debut album by British psychedelic band Nirvana, released by Island Records in 1967. The songs are linked with a story on the back cover which details the dream of Simon Simopath. "Pentecost Hotel" was released as a single with the non-album b-side, "Feelin' Shattered". "Wings of Love" was the next single, also with a non-album b-side, "Requiem to John Coltrane". "Girl in the Park", from the second album, All of Us, featured the b-side, "C Side In Ocho Rios", an instrumental version of "In the Courtyard of the Stars". The title of the album is a possible reference to William Burroughs' novel Naked Lunch, and is now considered a cult classic and a hugely rare and collectable vinyl. 

ALBUM PLAYED FOR AUDIO GRADING:

Yes – brilliant sound quality throughout!

THE STORY OF SIMON SIMOPATH is a complex album and a very difficult vinyl to collect. It is very rare and prone to heavy surface sound due to the production and many spare areas on the record.

This is a stunning example, this great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. It plays with incredibly powerful and clear sound, with no groove wear or blurring of the sound separation; incredibly rare on an original 1st ever pressing! 

Strong, undistorted sound, free of any loud pops or clicks, the channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with a minimum of surface sound during the tracks.

Great audio with minimal interference to distract form the overly enjoyment of this great record, and only very light surface or static noise between the tracks. I will give a detailed account below:

Side 1. starts with crystal clear audio. Nice clean run ins there is some very slight static at the very start, but it is faint, pretty much before the music starts. There is barely any light static during the music and no loud pops or clicks at all. Moving into the wonderful audio which demonstrates Nirvanas incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity. 

For such a varied album this is just an awesome audio performance. No pops or clicks and barely any background static at all. The music is just incredibly bright and sharp. It would be very hard to find a clearer pressing. 

Side 1. starts with crystal clear audio. Extremely clean run ins, there is barely any surface sound and barely any detectable light static at the start. Moving into the wonderful 'Wings of Love', the audio demonstrates the incredible subtle production layering found on this Nirvana masterpiece, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity. 

'Lonely Boy' sounds fantastic, with no pops or clicks, and barely any surface sound detectable at all. I heard a bit of light static at the start of the track, and that was the only noticeable surface sound on the whole side. 

'We Can Help You' and the 'Satellite Jockey' maintain the same high standard, with incredible clear sound. For such a varied album this is just an awesome audio performance. No repeating pops, clicks or tics and barely any background static at all. The music is just incredibly bright and sharp. There were a few light tics between tracks four and five, but even they are barely noticeable. 

Side 2. starts with 'You Are Just the One' which plays with barely any detectable static in the run ins and quiet areas. The sound really is brilliant and clear. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. No loud pops or clicks during the music, and not a hint of distortion. In fact I may as well confirm now that there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great vinyl.  

'Pentecost Hotel' plays with super clear sound, and the heavily layered quiet instrumental section sounds great. A few light static tics but they're are sporadic and barely noticeable. 

'I Never Found a Love Like This' plays with simply awesome sound. No noticeable sound blemishes, just great clear sound. 'Take This Hand' also plays with great clear audio. '1999' rounds off side 2. again with perfect, clear bright audio. Deep sound and incredible clarity. This couldn't be better. The instrumental sections are so clear and sharp, barely a hint of surface sound. Superb clear bright sound, amazing. 

The delicate areas sounds incredible. The audio is just superb, with barely any audible static and crystal clear vocal layering. No obvious sound interference at all. The vocals sing out, with great clarity. This variable album is nearly always blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. Barely a light static tic to be heard, just stunning clear audio. Superb clear sound. No pops or clicks, just truly incredible super bright clear audio. Fantastic!

All the way through the vinyl plays with incredible definition. A total lack of loud pops, clicks, interference, and certainly no distortion anywhere on this great record, makes this a truly incredible collectable press of this ultimate rarity. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars multi layers come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality and incredible lack of any surface sound make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

A staggering first stereo mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. This is a great all round example of this great  vinyl.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING  

A superb piece of heavy glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original 1st pressings, this vinyl looks virtually unplayed. On initial inspection the vinyl looks completely unmarked. Seen under a spot light it still looks largely unmarked and unplayed. No scratches, no hairlines, just a few barely visible sleeve removal and handling marks. A really wonderful ARCHIVE example.

THE LABELS 

Both labels are in great condition with no marks or writing, and no discernible spindle wear. No spindle traces can be found.

THE COVER

This is a stunning example of this Ultra Rare 1st press MONO cover. These thin card covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges. The spines are nearly always split, worn and un readable. Not this one!

There is very little detectable scuffing to the corners, and no rubbing along the edges. The opening edges are very square and un frayed. The white areas are very white, with minimal blemishes and just a couple of creases on the back. The back cover is nice and clean, with virtually no ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers. 

The thin spine is an unusually solid example, with very little light wear only. 

A great example. All round, this is a really great original cover. I doubt it could ever be bettered.

Graded at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS condition.   

THE INNER

An EXCELLENT PLUS condition, original white inner. NO small tears around the die cut opening, NO splits to the seams, and NO wear at the tops. Crisp and Clean, with no splits, and no writing. A great example. 

RARITY

A 1st pressing of THE STORY OF SIMON SIMOPATH in any type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. And these 1st pressings were produced in a very small run. Any EARLY UK PRESS examples with a record in great condition, that plays with TOP AUDIO, is an ultimate rarity, let alone a 1st MONO pressing. The MONO pressings we are produced in a very small run, infinitely more rare than the Stereo pressings, and virtually never come up for sale.

The cover, with the MONO logo on the rear panel, is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is one of the better examples. Finding a great cover like this, with a stunning piece of vinyl, fantastic!. The fact that this vinyl is in sc stunning condition must make it a one of a kind.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
