Nirvana : The Story Of Simon Simopath A/B 1967 Pink 'i' Island Label

This very collectable album plays to the highest standard possible with no intrusion whatsoever, I cannot rate it highly enough!  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is superb and I have never heard a better version.  Their first album from 1967 and it qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic as it just could not play with any greater precision.

I have done a little research and in my opinion this is a very rare pressing, it is not even listed on Discogs!  I believe the first pressings had the orange/black Bullseye logo on the labels and as can be seen this one has the pink 'i' label.  I have searched high and low and only found one other that was sold in 2012 which I saw on the Popsike site.  Perhaps this is a second pressing and was only produced in very limited numbers?  It is undoubtedly a rare pressing and who knows maybe more collectable than the first!

Regardless of that it plays with STUNNING quality and it still has the same matrix as the first pressings.  The laminated gatefold is in excellent condition with very little wear and is exactly the same cover that was also issued with the first pressings.  The inner sleeve, maybe not original, is very clean with only a little wear.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition with a very impressive glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches.  Only under a strong light can I see some faint hairlines but they obviously have no effect on the audio.  The run out grooves are very clean and the pink 'i' labels are unmarked with only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

The intro on 'Wings Of Love' plays with wonderful clarity and only a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  The opening vocal is just as 'clean' and it continues to play with genuine quality.  One very light tick just before the tempo increases but the clarity and warmth throughout is stunning for sure.  With that almost 'wall of sound' the depth of the audio is so impressive and the vocals play so clearly.  This has to grade as Mint- the sonic quality cannot be faulted.  What a start!

'Lonely Boy' plays to the same 'high end' standard if not better!  Again I cannot believe the audio definition here and it honestly plays as well as it would have done back in '67!  There is nothing that detracts from the audio - there is no 'muddiness' to the sound and each note is so clean and precise.  A superb Mint version.

The intro on 'We Can Help You' is 'as new' and the opening vocal continues this fine form.  The first chorus has no 'background' and from then on plays with flawless precision.  This is so good!  There is just no interference and the fade out does not even have a single dust tick either.  Mint

The quiet opening vocal on 'Satellite Jockey' can again be described 'as new' and this quality is maintained throughout with no sign of any interference.  There is no distortion on the top end and the 'supersonic blast' at the end plays to perfection also.  Just pure unadulterated Mint audio from start to finish.  Thus far I cannot believe what I am listening to!

'In The Courtyard Of The Stars' plays with a clarity that again defies the age of the album, approaching 50 years old let's not forget.  A couple of dust ticks on the first vocal but yes they are dust ticks and do not even deserve a mention truth be told - this is vinyl!  The clarity on the vocal and on every note is STUNNING and only on the fade out is there a very minor touch of mega light static, more the needle running through the grooves really.  This a fantastic Mint end to an unbelievable side of music.

'You Are Just The One' continues where S1 left off and plays with phenomenal quality from the first note to the last.  I am now running out of suitable superlatives for the sonic quality on offer here!  The clarity and depth is again outstanding and if it wasn't obvious already this is clearly a record that has been so well cared for and hardly played.  Another 'high end' track with no 'background' not even on the fade out.  Mint

The gentle intro on 'Pentecost Hotel' plays beautifully with no intrusion and the equally quiet first verse is just as good.  As the volume builds there is no decrease in quality and it proceeds in the same precise way.  Sublime audio definition and no sign of any distortion.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static just like all the other tracks!  Mint

'Never Had A Love Like This Before' plays with incredible clarity for such a quiet track, it is faultless.  A small number of dust ticks maybe but they are barely audible and I really mean barely audible!  This sounds like it was pressed only yesterday and was again I am astounded at the clarity.  From start to finish this is so quiet and yet there is literally no intrusion.  A beautiful Mint version if ever there was.

'Take This Hand' more than keeps up this exemplary standard and plays with superb audio throughout with, you guessed it, no interference.  No need to add anything further this is Mint from start to finish.

The final track '1999' ends the album with...no interference.  There is no inner groove distortion and the notes are not fighting to be heard.  Perfect clarity through every section including the fade out.  Immaculate audio and Mint is 100% deserved.

In summary this very rare and collectable album quite simply kicks any repress/reissue out of the park!  This is audio of the highest calibre and there is just no 'background', no intrusion to speak off.  This is such a good album and you will not be surprised to hear that I have never played one as 'complete' as this.  A FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic in every way the winning bidder I am confident will be just as impressed as I am, I'm not sure I want to part with it!  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is second to none and when you consider the rarity of this pressing it should command a lot of interest.  Surely there cannot have been many pressed?  Any audiophile will be amazed at the sonic quality on offer here!

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear.  It was produced in quite a flimsy was so it has done well to last this well.  The thin edges have only light rubbing and the even thinner spine is in superb shape with just minor wear on the bottom corner.  The other corners are very clean with very little shelf wear.  The front cover remains very glossy and clean and has just a small amount of wear top left where the laminate has been damaged slightly and a small 'rub' bottom left.  The back cover has no laminate wear and is in great shape with just minor wear on the bottom edge.  The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition with barely any wear and the inside pocket is perfect.  There is only the bare minimum of wear at each end of the inner spine, it really is very minimal.  A fine example overall.

The plain white die-cut inner is in very clean without any marking, barely any creasing and just has one side split.  I'm nmot sure if it is the original one though.
