UK LABEL NORTHERN SOUL/TAMLA MOTOWN
I'll be auctioning off a lot of UK label singles over the next year(s), taken from my own large collection. I've decided to concentrate on collecting US releases, and only keep a few UK label records. Among them are some very collectable 45s indeed, so make sure you don't miss any.
Here's another of my collectable TMG numbers.
THE MARVELLETES
"I'LL KEEP HOLDING ON"
b/w
"NO TIME FOR TEARS"
(UK: Tamla Motown TMG 518 1965)
Record conditon: Very good + (plays excellent ++)
Labels condition: Excellent ++
The Marvelettes appeared on the Tamla label in the US, and this was their first 45 to appear on the company's very own logo in the UK - though it didn't chart. "I'll Keep Holding On" is one of their best Northern-style singles, and was covered at the time by British mod group, The Action - their version didn't chart either. "No Time For Tears" is a lot slower, but still excellent stuff.
Both sides of the vinyl have countless "spiders webs". These are lines that criss-cross the vinyl, and indicate a lot of play by someone not too careful. However, as with the majority of 60s singles (and particularly UK presses), these marks don't transfer to the stylus, and both sides actually play far, far better than one would think. There are no clicks, no pops, hardly a sound, apart from that beautiful Motown music.
Usually, records that haven't been looked after too well also have some scribble, sticker, sticker mark, or other such vandalism. Not in this case. There are just lots of lines around the spindle hole to confirm that this record was much-played in mod households. The rest of both labels is very neat and tidy, and it's complete with it's original centre - plus conditions of sale. I've only scanned the B-side, but the other side is just as pristine.
Currently valued by Manship at £100.
This record has been played on both sides to verify condition. It comes in my own personalized card cover.
