Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over +22,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. The SECOND "RABBLE" album delivers a crafty style of tuneful grooves, growing with repeat plays. "Give Us Back Elaine" signed and produced ONLY in Canada, remains very hard to come by and is as solid track -for-track as any of the top level Canadian rock rarities or just under the likes of album rarities by Plastic Cloud, Reign Ghost, Haunted and a few elite pieces.
The Rabble's follow-up and (sadly) last effort, ‘Give Us Back Elaine’, was recorded through the end of 1967 into early 1968 and released in 1969 on Trans-World, same label as The Haunted. By this time the band had played The New Penelope Coffee House and touring throughout greater Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston, Canada
In April of 1968 The Rabble substituted for "Cream", who had canceled at the last minute, at The Paul Sauve Arena in Montreal to 5,000 fans. Despite the band’s unrehearsed show, they impressed the crowd with an hour-long set of songs consisting of their wonderful singles and album material.
The Rabble, a criminally obscure assortment of self composed underground rock from Montreal's western suburbs, were riding a wave of popularity in 1967 after having scored locally with their well crafted 'The Rabble Album' first LP, as well as having secured a U.S. contract for their excellent first album the previous year. Ever changing Rabble minds at play follow-up, with "Give Us Back Elaine!" , tossing off their blues-rock edges, in favor of a focused rhythmic brand of catchy psych-rock ala
"A Passing Fancy." As guitarist Mike Harris remembers it, "We made a point of not following trends, with so many bands getting into the heavy acid sound that we'd already been doing on stage for a year, we wanted to try something different, something new that no one else was doing at the time." As well, there was that business of selling records, "We channeled our creativity into weighty infectious approach, in hopes of getting airplay."
Much of "Give Us Back Elaine!" sounds like little else happening in the world of rock at the time. The guitar led and well irresistible tunes are an attempt to recapture the carefree beauty of their very popular 1967 single 'Golden Girl'.
'Candy' and 'Here's Your Mourning' are gorgeous popsike hooks, the latter especially with its clash of buttery-sweet arrangement fun-zones dominated by discordant guitar works.
'Butter Cup Blue' flourishes with a near-perfect guitar hook that in hindsight could have been exploited up into the music charts. Though nothing quite scales the heights of 'Golden Girl', the Rabble had clearly made their point in direction and by this, their second album, they'd honed their craft to a point where there's nothing but worthy tracks on this under appreciated/overlooked creation.
The RABBLE had built up a solid fan base in the Montreal/Ottawa region ( with "individualists, nonconformists and trend-setters"), but that rock-hard juggernaut south of the border in the U.S. proved just too tough to crack. Harris laments, "We met obstacles in trying to break into the U.S. market, and there was no future for us playing the same Canadian local venues over and over." As well, Montreal's always-hot night club scene was in transition. "The coffee houses disappeared, clubs that once featured live bands were now playing records - then going awful 'disco' - and radio stations once promoting local talent began restricted their playlists to international acts. These major international acts used to have local bands open for them, but after 1968 they brought their own opening acts. A lot of creative Canadian bands were wiped out by these monopoly kinds of things." Including sadly the mighty Rabble, who are remembered by two great albums
