Description
Word has gotten out now on this little Polish obscurity, and rightfully so. Difficult, nay, impossible to pigeonhole, you can compare Nurt’s lone 1973 LP (they never recorded another) with all your other early 70’s Polish rock albums (you’ve got a bunch, right?), but even that won’t help. Nurt is the kind of all-encompassing, never-static amalgamation of all things cool in rock that could ONLY come out in Poland. One minute they’re a heavy power psych blooz trio like Cream. Next minute, they’re 1970 Funkadelic, jamming on a cosmic slop fuzz bass riff that will bring a big maggot brain smile to your face. Then they’re Sabbath. Or Fifty Foot Hose. Or Hendrix. Or all of ‘em combined. Yeah, it’s THAT weird all the time. If this had been released in America, or England, the record shops wouldn’t know WHAT to do with these guys (let alone how to sell a band called “Nurt”). But hey, in Poland, it was filed dutifully under “ROCK,” or whatever the Polish word for ROCK was, and the Warsaw teens rejoiced. Well, the ones who were smart enough to buy it anyway. So what is Nurt? Track 2, with the catchy title “Synowie Nocy,” is the late 60’s/early 70’s George Clinton and Funkadelic jam you’ve always wished for. A familiar Western funk guitar riff kicks in immediately, with some great wobbly bendy ear-splitting fuzz bass. There’s an overload of wah wah here too, because even in Poland, this was the Seventies. But after a minute and a half of this stuff, the song suddenly changes direction – and we’re off into a cosmic mantra of swirling sitars and freaky psych-o-delic color wheels of sound, like Bootsy Collins introducing a clip from the movie WONDERWALL. Seriously, if the lexicon in 1973 included the term “WTF,” it would apply here. Next track in, the equally well-titled “Bedziesz Pania W Moim Piekle” is a beautiful slice of mellow, laid-back late night floaty psych, right up there in the echelon of incense and weedburning coolness for all you Gandalf and Common People fans. And I know you’re out there. One more track in, and the epic “Holograficzne Widmo” opens with a big Queen NIGHT AT THE OPERA gong, then it’s time to check out Cream live on their WHEELS OF FIRE tour, as heavy psych-out British blooz guitar trades licks with big titanic drums. Only the Nurt boys, they’ve got five years of progress on Eric, Ginger and Jack. So they throw some wild electronic synth squiggles, farts and whirligigs on top of the madness. Are you freaking out yet? You should be. Flip it over to Side 2, dominated by the INSANE 70’s hairy rock Diplodocus stomp of “Pisze, Kreda Na Asfalcie,” roughly translated to “Please, No More Creed Songs Or I’m Gonna Smash Them On The Asphalt.” Now THIS one, this is a gen-yoo-wine bona fide Warsaw weedburner extraordinaire – with overdriven fuzz-o-rama BASS that is absolutely GONZO crazy! Look, check out the sound clips if you must, but trust me. If you’re a fan of Funkadelic and Cream and Black Sabbath and the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Ravi Shankar and you’ve always been mildly disappointed that no ONE band ever managed to capture ALL those sounds in a giant puree blender slop of freakish day-glo smoothee goodness, well, lucky for you, there’s Nurt. There’s always been Nurt, of course. But word is only getting out now outside Poland. So who’s the dumb one now?
Original 1973 LP on the Polish MUZA label. STEREO. Vinyl plays very solid VG+ to VG++. Cover is very flimsy, thin European cardboard so it has some creases and wear along the open end, so a very decent VG+. You won’t be disappointed.

The less exciting stuff
Media mail shipping with delivery confirmation starts at $4.00 in the US, with each additional record only $1 additional shipping. Overseas shipping has, unfortunately, gone way up in the fast few months, which translates to $15 for the first LP to Canada ($3 each one thereafter) and $24 for the first LP everywhere else in the world, with each add'l LP an extra $5 (so it pays to buy more, nudge nudge wink wink). I accept payments through Paypal.
I try to grade as best as I can, and I list as many blemishes/imperfections I can find (writing, ringwear, scuff marks, etc.) – Also, please note that I DO listen to these albums – I may not listen to every track, but my grades are based on LISTENING, not just looking at it, since chances are you’ll be listening to the record you buy, not just looking at it. Most of the albums I sell are the ones I’ve enjoyed for years – and I treat my records with kid gloves. But sounds speak louder than words, so check out the sound clips below – they’re from the actual record you’re bidding on.
SHIPPING AND PACKAGING
Listen, I buy a bunch of records too (when I’m not getting outbid at the last second, which is more often than not) – and I know what it’s like to get a rare, one-of-a-kind album packaged dangerously in a flimsy bubblewrap package. I hate that too. So rest assured, I ALWAYS package albums with stiff cardboard reinforcements, same for 45s. And yes, the records are removed from the sleeves (for albums). I ship out once a week, every Friday, because I have a regular day job. But I’d be willing to give that up if you’d all be so kind as to bid my items up to stupidly high amounts.
For more security and international tracking, you may request GLOBAL PRIORITY MAIL - but bear in mind the cost of this service is upwards of $30. For expensive items, however, it may be well worth it. Unfortunately, there isn’t a cost-effective way of tracking parcels to foreign countries yet, and shipping times vary depending on your country’s postal system. Italy in particular seems to be really bad at delivering packages quickly, or delivering packages at all, now that you mention it. I will always email you when your package ships, but once it’s on its way, please don’t ask me when it will arrive because I don’t know. If the world’s postal systems can ever agree on a universal tracking system that’s affordable, I’ll be the first to use it.
NOW IT’S YOUR TURN…
I will always leave positive feedback for successful transactions, and would appreciate the same in return. All I ask of you is the following – please pay for your items within 14 days of the close of auction. Compared to other sellers, that’s a generous amount of time, so if you don’t pay within 2 weeks, then I have to assume something’s wrong. You’ll get an Ebay payment reminder at that point, and possibly a decapitated horse head in your bed. If, after 30 days, you still haven’t forked up the cash, I’ll relist the item and yell at you if I ever see you in town.
