Description
Artist / Title: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan / Bally Sagoo "Jewel (Jhoole Jhoole Lal)" (12-inch promo)
Format: 12-inch / Polylined inner
Label: Star Records (UK) Made in the UK, 1991
Catalogue No. SRLP 004 (taken from matrix on vinyl)
Three-track 12-inch: Jewel is a remix by Bally Sagoo of a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan vocal (Jhoole Jhoole Laal). Issued about a year after Massive Attack's Mustt Mustt remix. But this is less known and pure magic. Sagoo integrates Nusrat's devotional vocals with a slowburn backbeat and an uncredited Morricone sample - from Sixty Seconds To What from the For A Few Dollars More soundtrack - and - unless my ears deceive me - a brief snatch of Bowie dialogue from The Man Who Fell To Earth. The 12-inch with picture cover is rare, this white label promo even more so. Both previous owner and me have annotated the white label.
A-side: Jhoole Jhoole Lal (Extended Club Mix) 7:37
B-side: Jhoole Jhoole Lal (Radio) 3:57 / Jhoole Jhoole Lal (Dub) 3:45
45rpm.
Condition: Vinyl is in very good condition: looks great, but has had a fair bit of play. The opening seconds have a bit of crackle, but this disappears as soon as the drums come in. Plays beautifully both sides, crisp, undistorted, loud. Vinyl only has a polylined innersleeve. I'll find an outer for transit.
