This beautiful and rather rare LP from Capitol (P 18012, US pressing, green/gold script label, mono – no stereo version exists) features the great André Navarra in passionate and virtuosic accounts of Bloch's Schelomo · Hebrew Rhapsody* and Tchakovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme Op. 33, recorded on 22* and 23 September 1955 at EMI's Abbey Road Studio No. 1 with conductor Richard Austin and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Neither performance is currently available on CD; both can withstand the most exalted comparisons, be it with Nelsova or Rose (Bloch), or with Rostropovich or Fournier (Tchaikovsky). The mono sound is superb and one hardly registers that this is in mono. Navarra awaits renewed appreciation and there's no finer starting point than here.
There are extensive liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The extraordinary cover art is similarly uncredited, alas.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is light wear and discoloration along the edges, as well as discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains extremely solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
