Nestle Sports Foundation – It’s a Smash – ‘Flexi Disc’ = invitation to Discotheque Party at Palace Hotel, 1966.

This is a great example of an interesting item from that looks very much like a flexi-disc record. So much like a record in fact that I would be surprised if it was not a record company that made it. BUT – it is actually just a 7” circular piece of smooth plastic that has no grooves on it and in fact it is just an invitation to a party. On 24th September 1966 the Nestle Sports Foundation held a Discotheque Party in the Palace Hotel. The paper label gives the date and location and states “Mod Gear and Mini Skirts for mixed doubles this Sat”. This ties in with the tennis-player logo of the Nestle Sports Foundation that can be seen both on the label and on the thin card cover. Both the ‘record’ and the cover are in lovely clean condition although there is some light surface grazing to the top right corner of the cover. As I say – I am fairly sure that it must have been manufactured by a record company (perhaps someone like Lyntone) but as it is not a record there is no catalogue number or matrix number to confirm this. Even though it makes no sound it is a very interesting item that will go well in various types of collection.
