Description

New Music Ensemble "Free Group Improvisations" LP on the NME label from 1964. Very rare album of group improvisations from Davis, CA pressed in a small quantity by Century Custom. Early example of improvisation in the vein of Italy's Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, AMM and MEV, as well as some of the free jazz happening at that time. Features Jon Gibson (who would later record for Chatham Square) on flute, clarinet and sax, as well as composer Larry Austin on trumpet. Also features Billie Alexander (soprano), Wayne Johnson (clarinet, bass clarinet), Stanley Lunetta (percussion), Richard Swift (piano), Arthur Woodbury (flute, alto, bassoon). Comes with three pages of notes and biographical information by Austin. Record: EX ; Jacket: VG++.
