Background:  After The Birthday Party disbanded in mid- to late-1983, Nick Cave and Mick Harvey joined with Blixa Bargeld (ex-Einstürzende Neubauten), Barry Adamson (ex-Magazine) on bass-guitar, and Hugo Race on guitar, to form (what eventually became known as) Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.  Cave’s girlfriend and co-lyricist, Anita Lane, is pictured on the cover of the From Her to Eternity album, possibly indicating that she was also considered a member of The Bad Seeds.               

In September and October 1983 the new line-up recorded at The Garden Studios in London.  The band’s first live performance was in Melbourne on New Year’s Eve 1983 (under the name ‘Nick Cave – Man or Myth?’).  For a short while afterwards the band were known as ‘Nick Cave and The Cavemen’, before they adopted the ‘Bad Seeds’ name.  

After a short tour in early 1984 Cave and The Bad Seeds returned to the studio to record the remainder of the songs for their debut album.  The tracks recorded in March 1984 at Trident Studios in London comprised Side A of the album, and those earlier recorded in 1983 made up Side B.

The seven-track From Her to Eternity LP was released in July 1984.  Hugo Race left the band shortly after the album was released.

Condition:  The From Her to Eternity LP for sale here is the original 1984 release by Nick Cave on Mute Records.  The quality of the complete package – vinyl, labels, insert sheet and sleeve – is very good.  

The only blemishes that can be discerned are:

• the sleeve has several small crescent-shaped creases near the open edge, an imprint of the record (wear-ring) is apparent on the back; slight deformations in a few places along the sleeve’s open edge. 
• the insert sheet has an imprint of the record, but is otherwise in very good condition.
• the vinyl has a few scuff or smudge marks, but is otherwise in good condition. 

The condition of the record can be summarised as:

·         Vinyl: EX

·         Labels: NM

·         Sleeve: EX (possibly NM)

·         Insert-sheet: NM

Grading categories:

·           MINT: Unplayed – record, sleeve, inner sleeve and any inserts are all as new, and label has no spindle hole wear.

·           NM: Known to have been played but vinyl is virtually pristine.  Label almost as new but indication of record being played may be visible at spindle hole.  Sleeves almost perfect.

·           EX: Vinyl is free of scratches but may have scuff marks.  Slight wear may be present at spindle hole. Sleeve has slight wear but nothing significant.

·           VG+: Vinyl will have just a few light scratches but will play without crackles or any serious sound problems; label may have some wear marks.  Sleeve will have easily visible wear.

·           VG: Expect some light scratches; loss of some sheen on the vinyl; easily visible wear at spindle hole; perhaps a name neatly on label or sleeve; a touch of surface noise; fairly significant sleeve wear.

This record is from my own collection.  It was purchased new and has been well cared for.  It has been held in storage for the last twenty years.
