Shortly after the release of the raw, loud and angry In Utero came it’s antithesis, MTV Unplugged In NY. On a stage full of candles and orchids the band displays a different side of their hard-edged punk infused pop. Soft and intimate with acoustic instruments (even Dave Grohl uses brushes instead of sticks) and soft cracking voices add to a vulnerability and range only hinted at in the studio versions of many of the songs here. Featuring Nirvana favorites, some retooled for the acoustic stage, and powerful and moving covers of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World”, the live staple The Vaselines “Jesus Wants Me As A Sunbeam” and three amazing Meat Puppet songs accompanied by the Kirkwood Brothers, this album is a treat for Nirvana fans and fans of the intimacy of acoustic music.
Mastered for vinyl from the original analog master tapes at Bernie Grundman Studios and pressed on audiophile quality 180g LPs by Pallas in Germany, this is the definitive edition that hardcore Nirvana fans cannot live without.
