There are so many great stories about the staff and artists of Lizard Records, but who would dare to tell them. Who would know that the company derived its name from the producer, Gabriel Mekler’s cat (the company logo might be a clue), that the company car was an off white Rolls Royce (the first year with quad headlights) or that Nolan Porter would release three records on the label at the same time under three different names, Nolan Porter, N.F. Porter and Fredrick The Third. That was the brain child of a truly outrageous, mustachioed promotion man, Ron Merenstein, who wanted to chart three records by the same artist simultaneously, and I think he did it. Well there is no one, as far as I can tell, who is writing a book on this unique west coast company, but it would sure make a great for TV movie. Here we have for a no reserve auction, an interesting piece of this company’s history. A never or lightly played, white label test pressing of Nolan Porter’s, Lizard Records release “Keep On keeping On” B/W “Don't Make Me Color My Black Face Blue”, catalog # 1010 and produced by Gabe Mekler (of Steppenwolf- Born To Be Wild fame.)
