Description
Henryk Szeryng: Jean-Sebastien Bach's 3 Sonates et 3 Partitas pour violon seul.
Extremely rare box set (Odeon ODX 122 . 123 . 124) of Szeryng's first version of this work.
Red and silver label, in double sleeve (paper and cardboard), plus small leaflet with text (French only) by Marc Pincherle.
This copy is SIGNED by the violinist. Background: Szeryng played a concert on December 3rd 1955, in a small town north east of Montreal. The set is dedicated to the concert organizer. You can see in the picture below the program that was played during that evening. You'll also notice the autograph of pianist Charles Reiner, playing alongside Mr Szeryng on that evening.
Szeryng's inscription says: ''Pour ..., avec mes meilleurs souhaits tres sinceres pour que dieu notre seigneur l'inspire toujours a plaider victorieusement les causes nobles et equitables. Bien cordialement, Henryk Szeryng''. The organizer was a young lawyer at the time, later a prominent judge in the province of Quebec.
A picture of Szeryng is also included with: ''Pour le magique Centre JMC de Joliette avec les felicitations et les voeux sinceres de Henryk Szeryng. Dec. '55''. Each cardboard are also signed by Szeryng.
The box is a strong VG++: All corners are still very solid and you'll notice some slight shelf wears on the cover. Leaflet and pictures are NM. LPs # 123 & 124 are NM. LP # 122 (side A) has 2 very light hairline that I have tested and they have no effect on the sound.
Because of the value of the set, it will only be sent via airmail, with tracking number and full insurance. I have also put a reserve price on the set.
