Description
ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK - UNIVERSAL, the 1996 studio album released in UK by VIRGIN. This is the MEGA RARE 1st UK PRESSING in MINT UNPLAYED condition. I`ve bought this record in the 1st week of release in Virgin Megastore (now closed down for a number of years) at London`s Oxford Street. I kept the original shopping bag and shop price sticker, and they both will be included for the winning bidder. Virgin used to put VIRGIN CHART sticker on most new releases (trying to attract shoppers` attention to them) - it had nothing to do with the UK official records charts. I have also bought on the same day a cd of this album which I played through the years, somehow I didn`t have any need to play the LP and it remained genuinely unplayed up to this day.
THE MATRICES: Side1 - A - 1 - 1 - 1 Side2 - B - 02 - 1 - 1
THE COVER: VIRGIN MEGASTORE in the Oxford Street (same as HMV flagship shop situated not far from it) had their own shrinkwrapping machine, since a lot of records and cds come unsealed from UK manufacturers. But the quality of their wrapping differed from factory sealed. On occasion it was either too loose or shrinkwrapped too tightly, to the point where the corner of the record was nearly bending over. I`d normally keep the lps sealed, until I decide to actually play it, but this copy`s shrinkwrap was too tight and as a result the upper right hand corner had a crease, which would only become bigger as in a course of time shrink wrap continues to shrink. So, I removed it, and the crease straightened a bit, albeit not fully. Though I haven`t played the record, I didn`t have a presence of mind to put it in a plastic bag, so it was kept on the shelf with other records in my collection. Because of this, the cover shows signs of wear, as it was rubbing against other lps over years. Therefore I can only grade it as EX+.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in MINT- CONDITION, there`s a crease in the upper right hand corner (see explanation above). There are no stickers/sticker residue, dirt or handmade writings on it.
THE LABELS: are in STONE COLD MINT CONDITION. Self-explanatory really, since it hasn`t been played. There`s no fading or discoloration whatsoever, the colours are beautiful and vibrant.
THE VINYL/VISUAL INSPECTION: I`ve taken the lp out of the inner sleeve to make photos and to check for possible (visible) manufacturing defects. The lp was graded visually as MINT-, there is a small number of superficial paper scuffs visible only in strong light at an angle, they originated when the record was taken out and put back in the inner sleeve. It is made from rough, cardboard style paper, so there`s no helping it, as UK manufacturers (unlike japanese ones) do not always provide antistatic with the record. The record lies absolutely flat on the turntable, there`s no warping at all. Once again - it`s a new unplayed lp, it has this magnificent lustre in angled light.
THE VINYL/PLAYGRADED: For the benefit of potential bidders and for the purpose of this listing, the lp was playgraded on my high-end system including MICHEL GYRODEC with SUMIKO BLUE POINT SPECIAL CARTRIDGE, with following results: I`m pleased to say that both sides are playgraded as STONE COLD MINT, they play with cd-like "silence". I would also like to point out, that to avoid buyer`s disappointment I PLAY GRADE ALL RECORDS VERY (and I mean VERY) LOUD, so that all audible imperfections would reveal themselves.
Postage: insurance is required for this item, it is included in the prices shown - UK £5.30, Europe £15.00, Worldwide £20.00.
