Born from informal jams in 1970s Liege, Open Sky Unit paid tribute to Dave Liebman's Open Sky while carving their own progressive jazz identity along the way. Pianist-composer Ron Wilson anchored the group alongside saxophonists Jacques Pelzer and Steve Houben, drummer Micheline Pelzer, bassist Janot Buchem and percussionist Michel Graillier, and between them they fused jazz and soul with live-club energy. Their 1974 debut, recorded at Liege's Jazzland and released on a family-run classical label, showcased Wilson's full repertoire and though never globally famous, they earned a revered place in European jazz lore. This reissue restores the rightful spotlight on these seventies Belgian jazz innovators.
