ORANG-UTAN – Orang-Utan. Guerssen Records GUESS 231. Spanish release. Originally issued in 1971 on Bell Records (US). This edition issued in 2023. SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Includes obi band and insert with liner notes and rare photos. Comes in a clear outer mylar sleeve with resealable flap, as shipped by the label; ships as received.

DESCRIPTION:  Killer heavy rock, psych tinged, with dualing lead gutar runs, from England, whose sole album was only issued on Bell Records in the US. Details on this band have almost been non-existant until recent years; so here’s the latest update… Orang-Utan were in fact a London based band called Hunter (apparently they issued nothing under this name), featuring vocalist Terry "Nobby" Clarke (of psych-pop legends Jason Crest; the texture of his voice recalls that of Peter Lee Stirling of Rumplestiltskin), guitar player Mick Clarke, drummer and songwriter Jeff Seopardi and bass player Paul Roberts. They recorded their sole album in 1971 at DeLane Lea studios. In a bizarre twist of events, their producers / managers ran with the tapes to the US, where they placed the album with Bell Records under a new band name: Orang- Utan, without telling any of the band members. None the less, this is a lost classic of blazing, early hard rock with minor psychedelic hangover vibes, a twin-guitar attack, and waves of fuzz/wah, along with powerful vocals. Think Leaf Hound, Budgie, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore, Hard Stuff, Medusa era Trapeze, May Blitz, etc. First ever legit reissue done in co-operation with the original band members. Includes an insert with liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things / Got Kinda Lost), telling the bizarre story of the band for the first time along with rare photos. To my ears, this is one of the very best heavy rock albums of the period. Song titles such as Fly Me High and Magic Playground leave no doubt that this music is stuffed full of brain fryin’ chemicals. In fact, this is one of the very few genuine UK Acid Rock albums; highly recommended and an essential album for any rock collector. Play loud, play very very LOUD!

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.
