Description

HERE is a bit of a mystery: It's a white labeled shellac TEST PRESSING, very likely made in 1922.  The tunes are "SOME SUNNY DAY" (mx. 1044 tk 2) and Zez Confrey's big hit, "STUMBLING" (mx. 1045 tk 3) - both hit songs that spring. Very snappily played, by a well-drilled dance orchestra.

Rust American Dance Bands has the two tunes coupled on OKeh 4612, by VINCENT LOPEZ AND HIS ORCHESTRA. Quite convenient - EXCEPT the test doesn't look or sound like a 1922 OKeh recording!  It's by somebody else on some other label, and going by the numbers and type of pressing, is closer to a Paramount, or some other minor enterprise.

This original 1922 white-labeled test is a clean EE+. It's made of very fine grain shellac, with a very quiet surface.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.

An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."

And another:  “Descriptions as passionate and informative as superbatone’s are commensurate with what you receive: beautiful records, fast service - and even his writing on the shipping box is interesting, artistic, and indicative of the care taken for these records and to transport them safely.”
