Description
Hi All, the thinning out of my collection continues and I’ve sorted out a few choice cuts in the collection for your consideration as well as a few ‘vinyl staples’ for the discerning new entrant to vinyl collecting. OK for your consideration we have:
Title: ODESSEY AND ORACLE by THE ZOMBIES
Cat No: S 63280
Issue: Original 1968 UK issue on the CBS Label
Vinyl Condition visual: Visually, the vinyl grades as VG; it has retained a little of its sheen but not as bright as once was. Overall the disc is clean with a few light and superficial scratches on each side; there are however, no ugly deep scratches. The surfaces do show careful handling marks. Overall it’s a strong VG.
Vinyl Condition Playback: The vinyl grades as VG; audible static at the run-ins, however this generally lessens to mild static pops/clicks during the rest of the playback. It’s more noticeable on the quieter passages of this classic, however, it’s hardly noticeable when the harmonies kick-in the music drives. Aside from this, the playback is a strong VG and to be honest there is very little lessening of sound quality despite the grade. The vinyl sits flat on the turntable.
Label Condition: Ex; just look at the pics. Aside from a few very very light spindle marks there is no damage, writing or unwanted blemishes at all to the labels. The text is clear and legible.
Cover Front: The front cover is graded as VG; the laminated front is clean and undamaged and has retained its shape very well. The central image is clear and the lamination is generally VG and intact. There are laminate creases on the front, near to the opening edge and at the corners. It sounds much worse than it actually is – all mentioned for completeness. Overall it’s a strong VG cover.
Cover Back: VG-; the unlaminated back is in VG- condition being generally clean and essentially damage free. I say that as there are a few very mild rubbed areas but mostly minor age related and absolutely nothing too serious at all. There is one noticeable area of colour loss at the top left of the back-cover. This is from tape removal I think – you should be able to see this in the photo. The name Anne is also written on the back in black pen – bottom right corner.
Spine: VG+; the spine is intact, clean with good lamination cover with just a few minor laminate creases, but again all very minor. All text is legible although the spine has rounded off.
Corners: VG; mild and gentle knocks but mostly retaining their shape, corners at the opening edge are more affected, a little loss of colour in places.
Summary: I’m not going to bang on – it’s a classic and this copy is in VG shape overall; some might be tempted to grade this as EX, however, I’ve opted to go with VG. Yes there are audible clicks and pops in places but I stress that, overall, there is no lessening in the quality of the sound or of the sheer enjoyment listening to it. If you’re a seasoned campaigner you know how difficult it is to find this LP in anything like acceptable condition, but if you’re after a minter pse do not bid on this copy – it is accurately graded as VG but it will enhance your collection. Good stuff like this, in this condition doesn’t present itself too often and it’s certainly going to get more difficult in the future. So here’s your chance to grab a very nice copy of this sought after ZOMBIES album.
Postage: With regard to postage, all records will be posted in 12” Defenda- corrugated mailers so they should arrive as they left me. Finally, I offer a no nonsense refund if you’re not delighted with your purchase, less postage of course, which hopefully provides you with sufficient confidence to take a shot, and if you do, good luck.
