OSCAR SULLEY Afrobeat unknown LP! Listen
Private press holy grail Ghana musical Axelrod style
Oscar Sulley Braimah - Friends - a music of three continents Delta Records DRS 87M 102, USA 1987 MAD BREAKS & SAMPLES ON THIS ONE-OF-A-KIND PRIVATE PRESSING!Oscar Sulley has deservedly become a household name among fans of Afrobeat and Ghanaian 70s music after his 'Bukom mashie' with the Uhuru dance band was compiled, recompiled and remixed a few years ago (see the Ghana Soundz series). His entire discography has been much in demand lately (mostly the Jemelatu, Bontuku and Music of West Africa albums).
But so far there's been one album that has never shown up, and here it is for you to have! 'Friends - a music of three continents' is in fact a musical piece that was first performed at the University of Illinois in 1986 in tribute of the Olympics in Seoul, and the recording was released as a strictly limited private press. Like with most of mr Sulley's output, the sound is hard to describe but this may be his most adventurous effort.
The entire A-side is taken up by a symphony that indeed has a bit of all three continents (Asia, Africa, America) that make up the record. The Axelrod style dramatic composition culminates in a HUGE breakbeat that goes on for minutes, then back into ochestral mode. Words can't describe, so make sure you check out the snippets. Also, despite the late year (87) this sounds like it was recorded much earlier (and that's a good thing) though the b-side has one track with a drum machine.
The packaging of this album enhances its grail status; you get the original poster announcing the live concert plus the information booklet that visitors at the show received when entering the hall.
Composed by: Oscar Sulley Braimah Performed by: University of Illinois UC Korean Percussion Ensemble Parkland College Choral Union (Champaign, IL) Wachamba African Band (Parkland College) The FRIENDS orchestra (Champaign, IL) Tenor soloist: Professor Han Sohn, Seoul, Korea
Now with a low start bid, so best of luck!

LISTEN (mp3, snippets recorded from the copy on sale): (I will add sounds in the coming day or two!)
Grading: Vinyl: VG+ nice & clean, some mild static in silent parts, flawless in the louder parts
Sleeve: VG+ heavy duty fold-out cover which looks like it was hardly used, corners have mild wear, see pics.
Disclaimer on condition: This record is part of a box of vinyl that has spent the past three decades in the humid and hot climate of Nigeria, and storage for many of these records typically has been less than careful. To find a mint condition Nigerian record is very hard, VG+ is often the best grade, and for the rarest copies we may be lucky to even find a VG- copy. To be sure that you're fine with the condition of the album, make sure you listen to the snippets.
Payment: Buyer is expected to pay through Paypal within seven days after auction is over, or I will have to cancel the sale and report to Ebay.
ATTENTION PLEASE - SHIPPING COSTS ARE AS FOLLOWS; The shipping of this record to the USA is NOT 4 U$ (which is merely a Ebay default that doesn't take into account sellers from abroad) since I am shipping from the Netherlands. Priority Shipping: Europe 10 U$, international (including USA) 16 U$, Netherlands 8 U$ Registered mail: If the record sells for over 100 U$ I only ship through registered mail / insured where available; (Europe 18 U$, world 23 U$)

THE SHIPPING RULES - PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING By bidding on this item, you agree that I won't be responsible for items that are lost or damaged in the mail. In all my ebay time, I have never had a package lost and only once did an LP break but if you want to be 100% sure you may opt to have the record sent through registered mail at a little extra cost.
To prevent fraud, I will only ship to the address provided in your Paypal payment. If you want to ship to a different address, please change it in your Paypal settings before you pay. Also, I reserve the right to cancel any bids, for example from buyers who have given me problems before, including those who left me with a Paypal chargeback because their records took a while to arrive.
Any questions? Send me a message!
and look for a fat stack of West African / Nigerian / Ghanaian disco / boogie / funk / modern soul albums which I am posting this week... think Charles Amoah, William Onyeabor, Pat Thomas and other relatives of Oby Onyioah, Veno, Brakes, Xtasy, you know the drill.
Please wait for me to send an invoice with the total amount for your order. US bidders make sure you don't check out with the U$4 shipping option because shipping to US is more expensive.
