Description
An original very 1st UK Stereo press from summer 1964. Matrix 1/1. "Parlophone" perimeter text and "recording 1st pub" - indicative of 1st issue. Tax Code "MT". Stampers 1A/1O - placing it within the first few thousand copies ever pressed. Note the wide-bodied font employed on the labels - this is the VERY earliest design possible. It's not often you can say that a Beatles record is actually 'rare'...let's face it. But this is one of those unusual examples that qualifies. It would not have been a big seller at 1st press in '64. And to top that this is a STEREO 1st... I doubt if even 1 in every 40, made at the time, would have been Stereo format. Stereo was still very much in its infancy at this point. The combination of which make for a rather difficult record to get hold of. And given its orchestral nature I'm pleased to report a very fine rendition indeed. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original STEREO 1st issue cover with flipbacks. Also included is the original Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely shape and has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side, a couple of marks nearing semi-feelable, of which one, does sound [see details below] - but nothing heavy or nasty looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. And for an orchestral release you're really going to need a lightly used copy otherwise any background will quickly get annoying. The orchestral manoeuvres sound fab - power and authority with finesse. Interference does not really feature in the audio - it's a very fine and clean player. The only deviation is a few clicks in the closing violin as 'All I've Got To Do' fades out and, then, 5-6 ticks with a couple of crackles in the intro section to the song. Most of the song, however, still plays clean. Overall a stellar performer which renders these Beatles tracks to maximum effect in this alternative guise.
Cover (Ex) In marvellous condition and it can't be easy finding an original stereo '64 looking like this. Lovely clean and shiny front without ageing. Two slightest thumbnail creases over at the opening and a slight crease bottom left. The rear is astonishingly well preserved - no ageing at all really. Only ultra-light handling noticeable in a couple of isolated spots. Edge wear is pretty much non-existent. The spine is 100% intact as are all the flipbacks. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A little ageing. But no splits or markings.
