This handsome LP – a fine collector’s copy – from RCA Victrola VICS-1058, US pressing, plum/silver label – ED1; 2S/2S stampers, stereo) gathers together several inspired recordings that legendary violinist David Oistrakh made for RCA, each highlighting various facets of his remarkable artistry – the quicksilver virtuosity, gorgeous tone, impeccable musicianship, and magisterial bearing that were all hallmarks of his inimitable artistry.

Ernest Chausson: Poeme for Violin and Orchestra Op. 25
Camille Saint-Saëns: Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso Op. 28
Both works were recorded with Charles Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the fabled acoustics of Symphony Hall, Boston, on 14 December 1955.

Pietro Antonio Locatelli (arr. Eugene Ysaye): Violin Sonata in F minor Op. 6 No. 7
Both works were recorded with pianist Vladimir Yampolsky in New York during 7-8 March 1955.

Incidentally, the striking cover art reprints Claude Lorrain’s “A Herdsman Resting Under a Tree”. There are excellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, but that is all. in fact, the original shrinkwrap is largely intact. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT. Although the surfaces are not silent (and thus I have rated it as NM vs. MINT), really the playback is quite superb. However, if you must have NM or flawless surfaces, then please do not buy this LP – overall, this is a fine collector’s copy.
