Various Artists - One Million Strong Blakjam Label - BJAM 8810 1995 UK First Pressing on Double Black Vinyl.
This listing is for a very rare UK pressing of the Hip Hop compilation album One Million Strong. This album was released to mark the "Million Man March" in October 1995, which was a huge protest march against the continued stereotyping of particularly black males during the golden era of hip hop and basketball, where mainstream media and corporations were using the struggle of the African American community as a way to sell merchandise to privileged white teenagers who thought being broke, hungry and in constant fear for your life as being "cool".
It may seem ironic to some for a album to commemorate this March to be made up of Hip Hop artists who many claimed were glamorising and worsening the level of crimes in African American communities. "Many" would be wrong, 99% of hip hop is quite the opposite. It is about turning a mirror around to the government and the privileged masses who don't know what it is like to be in their shoes and highlighting the real cause, poor government management of immigrant communities, lack of economic support/stimulus and corrupt Government Officials and Police. In the words of 2pac, some things will never change.
Anyway enough of the politics, this album features the absolute cream of the golden era of Hip Hop, and of course the one and only collaboration of 2Pac and Notorious BIG before they famously became embroiled in a war of words and bullets.
This is an essential piece for any hip hop record collection.

All of my records are play tested on a Technics SL-1200 with a Grado GF3 stylus which is quite revealing so any sound defects may be more exaggerated than on other more mainstream players. Or conversely if you are a full on audiophile I will let you judge how your set up compares and how you envisage the sound will compare.
I don't currently have access to a cleaning machine so please forgive any dust or finger marks which are on any of my records - hopefully will be investing in one at some point.
Record Appearance - VG+ Overall really nice condition and unusually so for Hip Hop records, as they are normally destroyed by DJ's. Lovely glossy finish and just the odd light scratch under a bright light, nothing too deep. Labels are in great condition with no damage or pen marks, barely any of the usual spindle marks under a bright light suggesting little use.
Record Audio - NM Barely any surface noise on run in or in between tracks this is a stunning sounding record. Deep rich bass and clear vocals throughout, a joy to listen to.
Record Sleeve - VG+ Very close to NM this is again lovely condition for over 20 years old. A little shelf wear on the corners but the edges and spine are nice and clean. No damage or pen marks on the front or rear of sleeve, a great collectors piece. Records come in PVC anti-static sleeves.
