ORIGINAL 1975 first pressing in thick gatefold cover - the legendary TWO LP set that has become ever so popular in the last decade, for obvious reasons... and it was not in print long which explains the scarcity of the original release...RCA deleted it quickly.

Reed's anti-work. It's well known to be the middle finger to the music industry, a somehow vengeful way of closing a contractual commitment, or an extreme and elusive work of art. According to Lou Reed, it's the best recording he has ever done. Knowing him, it could be both pure irony or brutal sincerity.

In any case, just trying to grade this would be aberrant. Any mark is an attempt to structure and rationalize disorder. We're always trying to rank everything into a hierarchy to get an ordered list where every element has its determined place.

However, how could you structure chaos? And this album is pure chaos. It's extreme because it arises from chance, and we won't be the one who plays down its importance (Amon Duul 1, Mahogany Brain anyone?). Only for the idea of the endless transfixion that closes the album, - only in vinyl - it would already be a worthwhile work.

With regards to if one likes it or not... Might anybody like the demented cacophony??? Maybe. What we're sure about is that this record is necessary for art. Because music, as any other discipline, must explore its boundaries, its limits.

Feedback guitar anyone ?
From whence all things came. Where the noise shattered the earth and the blood flowed freely. Where tired rockism gets inverted, turned, trashed and twisted into a fearsome menace. Where the sex and power and masculinity of sound got a more proper release. Where the home of Riley, Ashley, Cage and their forefathers of experimental wandering, who seeked out a haven in dissonance, found a place to multiply, spread, and recreate. Where the greatness of Lou Reed's thoughts and feelings about his audience, the industry, the world, his old bands, and himself, along with all the implications that carries, was made audible. Where the true essence of the word "machine", so cleverly tucked into the title, lay. Where reality started to split. Slowly at first, as the music seeped out and crusted on the floor. Than faster as it expanded and scabbed over the still bleeding ground and then was reopened over and over again. Faster still as the speed of sound and machinery tore across the plains of time and music, soaring circles around Zeppelin and Motown and all of the UK, among many casualties. Finally it swallowed up the world and created a new womb for the fetus to be reborn in, granted a very dark and scary place to be born. Its the place where sonic nothingness met mechanical exploration, the place where everything on one side of hate briefly brushed against everything on the other side of exhilaration, leaving just a small crack in the ground for love to perhaps spring up, because nothing is anything without balance. Where the harrowing lightning of God met the spiraling fires of Satan, and Reed managed to capture the bootleg. Where the importance of a document outweighs its sell-by date. Most of all, where you and I get a chance to expand ourselves into the newness of sound and all the glorious possibilities that brings:

CONDITION: The cover thick gatefold, solid & stiff on all parts VG+(+) having only light shelf wear,  as do most surviving copies as the dark cover did not hold up that well...still this copy is better than most and ultimately collectible with only the light shelf wear that has started...no split seams, or other detractible problems.

The vinyl is a two vinyl set...all 4 sides retain the glossy original luster, VG++ to "EX" (excellent) having only a few random nothing scuffs that do not in any way affect the play grade which is excellent with no audio problems. all 4 RCA labels are clean
