Description

Up for auction is an original 1971 US pressing (Vertigo VEL 1008) of Patto's classic album entitled Hold Your Fire. This is a very rare gatefold copy on the Vertigo swirl label. The LP is still housed in its original inner sleeve. It has been estimated that less than 1,000 copies were sold in the US. There are more promo copies on the market than stock copies.

For those unfamiliar with this highly innovative band, Hold Your Fire features the magnificent guitar playing of Olly Halsall and the deep, emotional voice of Mike Patto. Many people compare Olly favorably with Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Olly simply had the unfortunate luck of going unnoticed to most of the listening public. On the other hand, Olly was well-known in musicians' circles for his amazing guitar playing skills. Olly was also a strong keyboard player, and both his guitar and keyboard playing were always in high demand as far as sessions for solo artists went. In fact, Olly was strongly considered by The Rolling Stones to replace Mick Taylor in the mid-'70s. Not to take anything away from the great Ronnie Wood, but one can only imagine how amazing that would have been! There are so many talented artists who go unrecognized during their lifetimes. Olly Halsall was certainly one of these people. Hold Your Fire contains some of the best guitar work that Olly (or anyone has) ever committed to wax.
