Description
Hi, its time to part with some of my vinyl, posters and music related stuff that I have gathered since my teenager days. The wife calls it crud, I call it my stuff, and, over the coming months, as and when I have the time, I will be putting more of my stuff on ebay for auction. Up for grabs here is a very nice copy of one of the Beatles rarities, the 1st issue of Please Please Me, here's the full SP:
Title: The Beatles - Please Please Me
Cat No: PMC 1202
Matrix No: Side 1: XEX 421- 1N - Side 2: XEX 422 1N
Issue: Original 1963 issue on the Black and Gold Parlophone Label - with Dick James publishing credit for Please Please Me, I Saw Her Standing There etc which denotes the first issue as per RRPG listing.
Vinyl Condition - Visual: Strictly iaw the Record Collector Guide, I would describe this as in VG + condition overall; the vinyl retains much of its shine and gloss and it lays perfectly flat on the turntable. The vinyl on both sides is showing normal signs of age and use all of which is commensurate with its age. There are a few scratches on the vinyl, however, I stress these do not affect play whatsoever, they are superficial in nature and they can be clearly seen in the photo's. The photos tend to make them look more ugly than they really are.
Vinyl Condition - Playback: A sheer delight to listen to; aside from the odd bit of static and crackle, all very low level I hasten to add, this disc plays nearly to an EX standard. There are no skips, jumps or major pops etc. This is a very palyable copy, however, despite my confidence that the new owner will be delighted with it, I will still conservatively grade it as VG +
Label Condition: Just look at the photos, the labels are in EX condition, clear legible Gold text on unblemished Black labels. No tears, stains or scribbles. Minimum of marks around the spindle hole - KT embossed.
Cover Front: Not the best cover to be fair and clearly its seen better day's, however, it's the original one and not a later matched one. No writing or stickers and the laminate is pretty much in tact, but as you can see in the pictures, the cover front is creased in places and well bumped at the corners and the opening edge. The entire bottom seam is split - so, if your looking for a perfect cover this is not the one for you as this will either need to be repaired or the cover replaced. That said, if you did match this with a better (and original cover) it would elevate the complete package to EX- in my opinion.
Cover Back: Apart from the obvious issues as seen in the picture the back is surprisingly clear, off whitish in colour with no writing or marks. Damage to the top right corner as you can see and you can clearly see the split in the bottom seam and the unsightly tape residue. Not the best cover admitedly, but certainly not the worst Iv'e seen.
Spine: In tact with no splits - text is legible for most part, however, the letters a and t in the Beatles have been worn away.
Corners: Quite bumped and damaged, as you can see they are worn down in places to the card.
Summary: I have owned this album for the best part of 30 odd years and have listened to it regularly. It is a lovely record, the vinyl is essentially very playable and a treat to listen to, however, as I have explained above, the cover lets it down a little. That said, I have not seen too many of these up for grabs lately even in this condition. With the current and emerging interest in vinyl, pieces like this can only get harder to find, here's your chance to grab one. Good luck if you're bidding, and I offer a no quibble money back guarantee if you are not delighted with it. Thank you.
