Description
Henry Purcell, First Set of Twelve Sonatas [for violins (2), Violoncello, Harpsichord under the Artistic Direction of Robert Donington.]
Recorded under the auspices of L’Oiseau-Lyre label founder, Louise B. M. Dyer, in France, c. 1949.
This is a real rarity. Rare enough that I could find only 18 copies in University Libraries around the world.
Condition of all 3 LPs in the set is remarkable
I test-played them all—on a Revox linear-tracking turn table with a 2-month old Shure needle and cartridge installed and calibrated by a good friend and Revox expert.
Very little ambient background noise, and no extraneous noises. Some of this may be due to having been played very little, but some due to the quality of the recording and pressing. (The beginning of Side 2 looks to have what may be a flaw in the initial tracking groove and this produces some noise. But there is the noise does not extend into the music tracks.)
The box is in great condition. Outer spine labelling is completely in-tact and sturdy.
