Ork Records: New York, New York 4 LP Box Set Vinyl (Record, 2015)
Four-record box set, containing stiff pictorial sleeves (catalog numbers 060.1-4) each holding one record with plain white inners, together with a 109-page hardback book, all housed in pictorial slipcase.
"There are parts of music history I wish I could fully immerse myself in so I could experience the time period, the environment, and culture that produced these important movements. The downtown New York Punk and No-wave era is one such place. This Numero Group collection from Ork Records is a great keepsake from that time and place. I can't say that this collection brings me any closer to the realities of that scene, but it does provide the unique sonic texture and urgent emotional storytelling that defines the brand of nicotine and beer stained atmosphere it belongs to. The “Ork Records: New York, New York” vinyl collection is well crafted, and the audio is a good representation of the originals. Surprisingly all vocals and instruments including bass are completely accessible in the sound picture. I don't think the sound stage was meant to represent a rich 3D audiophile space. Instead, the audio space is compact and as flavorful as a stick of baseball trading card chewing gum, but the compactness of the music is a feature that is part of its own culture—short, sharp, and as on point as a ballpoint pen. This is a zeitgeist captured in vinyl which can't be touched or experienced again except through sound, so dear reader, the sound you get is the sound you get, it’s the sound of the times."
