P J Harvey, Rid Of Me Vinyl LP, 1993 Island Records ILPS 8002/514 696-1.
This is a first pressing of PJ Harvey’s second album from 1993.
The sleeve is VG maybe VG+ - it’s a mostly white sleeve so there is some yellowing and ring mark and some internal spotting but nothing significant and there is no spine bursts or loose fold-overs.
The original inner sleeve is intact and has some creasing on the cut out side (see photos) but is very well preserved. This LP has been in a non-PVC outer sleeve for about 20 years and in a static-free lined inner sleeve since about 2012.
Onto the record itself: the playback is incredibly quiet for a record nearly 30 years old - a definite Excellent especially after a clean with a brand new Japanese roller cleaner.
This is a fantastic record - and a fantastic sounding record - that has a massive place in recent music history - Harvey’s Dorset blues meeting Steve Albini’s suburban cool. It is quite frankly brilliant.
The pricing of this record on discogs is all over the place but what is clear is that this record is rare and desirable, so I have pitched it slightly low compared to some current discogs prices to try to be fair to potential purchasers. For extra bragging rights - this record was bought in Acorn Records in Yeovil at the time of release - pretty much Harvey’s local record shop!
