Pat Thomas, who comes from Agona in the Ashanti region, was born to a musical family with a father who was a music teacher and a mother who was a band leader. He started his career by studying Onyina, who played with Nat King Cole, Miriam Makeba, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald, and learned how to play guitar and drums.
In the early 70’s, he came to Accra to join the Blue Monks led by Ebo Taylor, which was the resident band at Tip Toe at the time, after which he was recruited to lead the Satellites band based in Ivory Coast. He returned to form the Sweet Beans Band, which was the personal favourite of then Head of State Col. I.K. Acheampong, and he was crowned Mr Golden Voice in 1978, the same year he won an ECRAG award.
