Hard to belive this debut album from the late Patsy Cline was issued 65 years ago. The album had only one hit, "Walkin' After Midnight" (#2 Country, #12 pop), but it's one of her most interesting albums. There's everything from gospel ("That Wonderful Someone") , Rockabilly ("Ain't No Wheels On This Ship", "Don't Ever Leave Me", "Don't Wanta"), Jazz ("Too Many Secrets"), Pop ("Then You'll Know"), etc . The countriest song in the bunch is "Walking After Midnight", which this version is way better then the popish 1961 remake. Listen to this one first before you listen the Patsy's later efforts. You will hear the difference in her delivery compared to her straight to Decca tracks. These tracks were recorded for the 4-Star label and leased to Decca. Patsy was only allowed to record songs written for 4-Star, so this may explain why it would be another 4 years before Patsy was to score another hit after her contract with 4-Star was over. Early Patsy at her finest!

DECCA's PINK LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD++ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)         This is the original flat edge pressing.

(e)         True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(f)          Pink Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 100:1.

(g)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                          THE COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD MINUS   (VG-). (SLIGHT COVER DAMAGE NOTED)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       A visible water stain affects about 20% of the cover along the bottom seam; there is some visible structural damage to the cover (none on the back side);  the stain is visible on both sides and has caused some erosion in the firmness of the cover ,  visible yellowish discoloration, a few small peel-off marks (about 4 square inches total) and a slight warp in the affected area.  The bottom seam was  taped by the previous owner with a 2" wide piece of transparent scotch tape

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-       Cover has some visible drip-like stains along the top seam  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)

-       Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small yellowish discoloration from the radio station sticker removed from the spine)

-       Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a partially split spine (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)

-       Visible shelf wear noted on the spine and the top seam.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
