Description

Up for auction is a nice original copy of the Patti Smith album "Horses" originally released in the U.S. on Arista Records (AL 4066) in 1975.

-Guaranteed early pressing, not later reissue
-Correct light blue Arista labels

Note: The very first issue of this album had the title "Horses" on the front printed in white, which made it difficult to read, so the record company quickly began to print it in black to make is easier to see.  The "white Horses" covers are very rare, and copies sell for over $100.  This copy is a first issue with the "black" printed title, still very rare.

Condition:
The cover is still in nice condition, with some light signs of wear and age.  Front and back lamination still has a nice shine to it (see photos) with just some light rubbing top and bottom middle.  Seams are nice, no splits, but have some rubbing and crazing here and there.  Spine shows light rubbing and flaking.  Also shows a little age discoloration along a couple edges.  Still very nice.  Grade: a strong Very Good Plus (VG+).

The vinyl is in very nice condition, still retains its original shine.  No obvious scratches or scuffs, just a couple very faint superficial hairlines.  Labels are clean, unmarked, no marks around spindle holes. 

Play-Tested: This record has very nice sound quality overall, no skips or loud ticks or pops.  Maybe a little faint background pressing noise during the run-in groove and quiet parts, but nothing that distracts from the quality of sound once the music kicks in, which is excellent.  Patti's voice sounds great--strong and clear.  Not audiophile clean, but none of these original pressings are.  Grade: Excellent (EX).
