Bass on Top is another thoroughly engaging set of straight-ahead, mainstream jazz from Paul Chambers. The bassist leads a quartet comprised of guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Hank Jones, and drummer Art Taylor through a selection of standards, including "Yesterdays," "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," and "Dear Old Stockholm," as well as a handful of contemporary jazz numbers and originals. There's a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to the music, both in its tone and in the fact that Chambers lets Jones and Burrell have some time in the spotlight. The result is a warm, entertaining collection of mainstream jazz that nevertheless rewards close listening.

These Japanese hi-grade , virgin-vinyl, extended-dynamic range vinyl pressings - while they were imported  in the 1970's and early 1980's - were audiophile and connoisseur delights  (we   have not  seen some of these titles in circulation in years – some of them are highly collectible). These majestic recordings received an  intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings did.   They are characterized by the boosted dynamic and frequency range, almost compulsive attention paid to the fine detail and integrity of the pressing and highest quality  of the material. Many of  these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music  reproduction as close to  the actual recording session as possible. In the best tradition of some of the major Japanese corporations -  such as RCA Victor Co. (Nippon),  Warner-Pioneer Corporation of Japan or EMI-Toshiba Corporation  -  the sound quality of the Japanese pressings is, generally,  truly extraordinary - much better, we firmly believe, than the corresponding first pressings of the albums in question.

(a)         THE VINYL IS ABSOLUTELY, PERFECTLY MINT,  as if never played before. The original luster is totally intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles like brand new. The labels look perfect, simply gorgeous, with absolutely no trace of wear around the spindle hole. The record is TOTAL PERFECTION - ABSOLUTE VISUAL NIRVANA! We are confident that, in this condition, the record we present here is truly once-in-a-lifetime find.

(b)         The record comes in the thumbnailed Blue Note inner sleeve, late '50s style (Japanese reproduction of the original BN period inner sleeve)

(c)         The record is STILL in its original inner, hi-grade PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(d)         In addition, the album comes with the original thumbnailed BN inner sleeve, which mimics the original late '50s release

(e)         The album comes with the original Japanese half-page insert.

(f)          In addition, the album comes with the unused gold leaf "stereo" sticker (historically inaccurate for this title)

(g)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(h)        In addition, the record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(i)           The album comes with the original Japanese 'OBI' strip/sash.

(j)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
