FOR DEBORAH / A PLACE IN THE SUN ... 7-inch, 45rpm OST TV single by PAUL DUPONT ORCHESTRA aka ROGER WEBB. Original UK promo pressing on YORK RECORDS label (SYK 521), from 1972. Super-obscure UK lounge masterpiece by cult Chappell Library / PYE label arranger and keyboard player, Roger Webb recording under a pseudonym. For us, maybe the finest example of the English lounge sound on 7-inch format ;) Features the mesmerising soft funk of FOR DEBORAH... a bewitching mix of psychedelic strings (strikingly similar to the Johnny Harris Fragments Of Fear film score on the intro) with baroque electric harspichord a la Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased). Beautifully melancholic throughout with Herbie Flowers style fender bass / infectious break-beats cum hip hop drums / shimmering bells / groovy guitars / tambourine etc. Actually a little known grail from a Chappell Library session clearly created for the european market (it has that continental early '70s soundtrack ambience of the period) but used for broadcasting on the long forgotten, Yorkshire Television play adaptation of A Summer Story. Great for DJs. Booming production. This is also the moody backing track you can hear playing behind DJ and Library enthusiast Martin Green when he talks on the latest installation / teaser of the Shawn Lee Music Library film ;) A PLACE IN THE SUN side is also superb. A more jaunty / galloping classical lounge theme penned by Jack Arel and Jean-Claude Petit for the equally obscure Yorkshire Television series of the same name. Original 4-prong centre intact and our copy is the desirable promo issue too. Seldom comes up for sale. Very rare OST 45!!!      

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is in strong VG++ condition (closer to M-) with a few hairlines / light scuffs from sleeve removal and some old faint pressing residue marks. Some light surface noises. A couple of soft pops to the fading outro of "For Deborah" (as you can hear on our soundclip). Faint, mini old faded sticker residue mark to one side of label (barely visible). Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of the soundclip. Record will be housed in plain white card sleeve with brand new poly lined inner. Very rare OST 45!!!
