This first pressing plays to a incredible standard with barely any intrusion. Arguably no intrusion because there are only a couple of light ticks on 'Who Are The Masters?', nothing else. I have graded this track as Near Mint and all the others as Mint or Mint- such is the quality of the audio. A FINAL UPGRADE in my opinion. The clarity, depth and power and power is exceptional and the vinyl is also in lovely condition and looks hardly played. It may not be a typical Vertigo release but I do think there are certain progressive elements to the music, it is definitely not just soft rock as per the Discogs info!
The gatefold is in excellent condition with not very much shelf wear and the original Vertigo swirl inner is very good with mainly some 'browning'.
As can be seen this first pressing has very early stampers, 111 and 112.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition with a lovely glossy sheen and of course no marks or scratches. Under a strong bright light I can only see a small number of very faint hairlines, hardly any actually! There is no groove or surface wear and the run out grooves are super clean also. The iconic Vertigo labels are stunning with hardly barely any spindle wear.
Play grading
'Life After Death' plays with superb audio from the word go. Jones' opening vocal has no background and the first 'chorus' is on the same level. It continues in the same precise way and it has that typical, deep rich sound that you find on Vertigo pressings. Even the quiet end vocal and fade out play with perfect clarity. Mint
The quiet intro and opening two verses on 'Motel Blues' are 'as new' and the mid instrumental is of the same exact standard. The depth and warmth of the audio is stunning and the final verse have no intrusion either. The closing section and fade out again show how carefully this vinyl has been looked after. Yep another Mint track.
'And You Say I'm Too Dependent On My Mind' is flawless! The first verse has no intrusion and as the volume increases the sonic quality is incredible! So powerful and with tremendous depth also. Great separation i.e. each note can be heard so clearly with nothing getting in the way. The mid instrumental is so deep and strong, the sound really resonates, and the end section is again so powerful with no interference. What you also notice throughout this classic track is the complete lack of distortion, like I say it plays with STUNNING quality! Oh and another perfect fade out by the way. Mint
'Construction Worker's Song' completes the side with genuine quality once more. For a final track the clarity of sound is so impressive and if there is any inner groove distortion it is barely noticeable, another sign the record has hardly been played I would say. The entire track plays with stunning quality and the two brief silent passages in the middle give an example of the clarity on offer here, total silence! The closing instrumental plays with such precision and the incredibly long fade out plays with... incredible clarity! This is easily a Mint- version at the very least.

The intro on 'Song (For Stan Stunning And The Noodle Queen)' plays to perfection and the first verse is close to that with only a couple of minor static ticks. The second verse has no background and the third is equal to that. Powerful audio once more and again... no distortion, just great depth and resonance. Mint- is a fair assessment and listening to this track you can see why Jones got involved in musicals. I wonder how he came up with the title! 'The Pod That Came Back' plays with outstanding clarity, depth and warmth through every vocal and instrumental section. Can't say any fairer than that - the audio is perfect - a couple of barely audible statics at most and Mint is deserved. Almost a proggy 'feel' to this track in my opinion.
'The Mighty Ship' again plays with exceptional quality. No ticks, clicks, pops or static the audio is free of any background - I cannot fault it. Maybe of minimal touch of distortion towards the end? Or maybe not. Barely noticeable. A superb instrumental to finish with actually and Mint- is again fair. The quiet intro on 'Who Are The Masters?' has just one mega quiet tick, you hardly notice it, and the first verse is perfect. The chorus has one slightly more obvious tick but is still not loud. From then on it plays with sensational audio - as the pace quickens it definitely has a progressive sound and the power and depth is stunning. Powerful again and no distortion again. As it descends into the final quiet section the clarity is 'as new' and this end vocal is near perfect with just one tick right at the end. Near Mint The intro on 'A Strangely Human Sound' is of course so quiet and yet the playback is faultless. The opening vocal is equal to that and the instrumental bridge is 'as new'. It continues to play with impeccable quality - every section playing so clearly for a final track. A modicum of inner groove distortion perhaps but again totally non-intrusive and I only mention it to be 100% 'complete' with my gradings. The clarity and definition is actually very impressive and you can easily turn it up to 'loud' without it affecting the sonic quality. One of the best tracks on the album in my opinion, shame it's not longer, and the closing instrumental is STUNNING. The final 'wind' section has barely any background, a superb Mint- version.
The Gatefold & Vertigo Swirl Inner
The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear. The edges have barely any hardly any rubbing and the wide spine remains strong and clean with only the bare minimum of wear on the corners. The right hand corners have hardly any wear and the opening edge is practically 'as new'. The front cover is very clean with only a little fading / surface rub near the bottom edge and the back cover is similar with a sticker in the bottom right corner also, it seems to be of German origin for some reason. The inside of the gatefold is stunning and has only the lightest of spotting near the bottom edge. A fine example overall.
The original poly-lined swirl inner (dated 0671) does have a fair amount of browning as you can see and I suspect there were two edge splits at some point because they do have a rough 'feel' over a few cms. The catalogue number is also written in one corner also. Very little creasing though.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
