Description
The Peabody Company
Set of 6 10" acetates from NY, presumably from 1967 or 1968. Consists of 11 songs which total an album's worth of material. 3 covers, rest are originals. Covers include a long version of Tobacco Road, featuring a long theremin/drum freakout in the middle; I Can't Explain, also with a short theremin/drum interlude and Let's Live For Today.
The originals are melodic guitar-driven psych with occasional late 60's West Coast flashes. They're primarily faster tempoed, with one ballad and one good-timey jugband-style song. With titles like Sunny Daze, This Better Life, A Hundred Percent of Nothing. For a fuller and more florid description, see Paul Major's listing of this at the beginning of his last catalog (scan available to seriously interested parties).
As I state in the auction title, this is the rarest psych record there is. This is the only copy of this record in the world.
The entire set has been heard by only a very small handful of people, except Tobacco Road is now known from the Fistful of Fuzz comp, where it was the closing track. Otherwise, this has never been reissued. The sweetener to this deal is that the new owner can do anything he wants with this (hint hint).
I will be putting up a few short sound samples early in the week.
Condition:Grading is visual, and naturally does not include the large trail-ins at the beginning of the sides. Audibly, there are no skips, nor any really discernible noise. The set as a whole was played twice by me, except Tobacco which was played once more when it was comped.
Disc grades are as follows:
Disc 1: VG (1-sided)
Disc 2: VG+/Ex
Disc 3: VG+/VG+
Disc 4: VG+/VG+
Disc 5: VG/VG+
Disc 6: VG+/Ex
