PETE BROWN & PIBLOKTO - THOUSANDS ON A RAFT
Lovely condition1970 UK 1st press prog/psych gem, direct from the legendary BBC library record archive
Year/Label : 1970 UK HARVEST Label number : SHVL 782 Matrix numbers : SHVL 782 A - 1G, SHVL 782 B - 1G Stampers : 1 G / 1 RVery good plus (VG+) condition vinyl (I am sure that many would grade this as "excellent") - completely flat, weighty and retaining a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen with earliest UK press "-1G/-1G" matrices. In normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as virtually unmarked and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just the occasional small wispy hairline and very faint small surface scuff come into view - each non-obvious, non-feelable, and appearing to be purely superficial. The labels are in excellent (EX) condition - with close inspection it is possible to identify a couple of faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, otherwise perfect. Note that each label contains the "BBC GRAMOPHONE LIBRARY" stamp and is devoid of the usual "EMI" text - an indicator of a true UK 1st pressing (along with the "1G" dead wax matrix stampers). I find it hard to accurately grade the iconic Garrod & Lofthouse outer gatefold sleeve since it is housed in BBC Gramophone Library thick laminate along with x6 BBC stickers (x4 on the outside of the laminate and x2 between the BBC laminate and the original gatefold laminate). With care these stickers are removeable (certainly the outside ones), but my view is why would anybody want to do so? For me they form an intrinsic component in the rich 55 year old story covering the origin and journey of this LP, which undoubtedly includes the handling of this record by BBC disc jockey luminaries such as John Peel, Alan Freeman, and Annie Nightingale to name but three. What a conversation piece! This LP was once part of what is generally agreed to have been the greatest record collection on earth - these stickers authenticate and rubber stamp that, and for that reason I for one would never want to remove any of them! Do take a close look at my photos and make up your own mind! Truly impressive excellent (EX) sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, distortion or background crackle - wonderful tone and crystal clear stereo reproduction with brilliant hard-to-fault stereo sound quality throughout. If you listen very carefully you may just be able to detect a little and very low level background clicking towards the beginning of A3 - I think caused by a very thin, very faint, and very wispy non-feelable hairline which probably accounts for why the clicking is so faint...very trivial. What a brilliant and underrated psych/prog LP this is, with every track a great listen. Comes with original excellent condition poly-lined EMI/Harvest advertising inner sleeve with no side splits, no tears or edge fraying, barely any age discolouration and just a little light creasing towards the corners. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. A lovely copy of this 1970 UK 1st press "under the radar" psych gem, made all the more desirable as a collector's piece through it's BBC Gramophone Library origins.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
