Recorded in Los Angeles, October 1, 1956.
These tunes were ultimately issued on Southland SLP 215. There are no take numbers on this acetate so it is not known if these are the issued takes.
Tracks:
1. Farewell Blues
2. At the Jazz Band Ball
3. Jazz It Blues
4. March of the Bob Cats
Personnel:
Al Hirt (tp) Abe Lincoln (tb) Pete Fountain (cl) Eddie Miller (ts) Stan Wrightsman (p) Morty Corb (b) Ray Bauduc (d)
What a band! Trombonist Abe Lincoln is spectacular on these sides. Fountain is exquisite, as always, plus you get drummer Ray Bauduc and tenor sax man Eddie Miller playing like they never left New Orleans. Wow!
Joe Mares, Jr. was the owner/operator/proprietor of the Southland record label, based in New Orleans.
