PETER COOKE and DUDLEY MOORE
'THE L.S. BUMBLE BEE / THE BEE SIDE'
On the original DECCA RECORDS F.12551 from vintage 1967.
A great and renowned single, loaded with anecdotes and references to illicit drugs!
(oh those naughty chirpy British comedy chaps)
This was not merely a spoken-word comedy novelty record though, as it's quite a decent psych piece as well, and well-savvy with the psychedelic drug-influnced scene going on in London at the time. Echo effects and tripping piano-strings plucking, as well as odd backing vocals, baby cries and seagull sounds.
As ever, the duo play off each other with staccato, rapid-fire commentary. The Goons certainly did have an influence on radio and television comedy at the time, and these two lads carried the 'baton' through the 1960's and early 1970's.
This comes from a great era in British psych music, and is a rare collectible.
The vinyl is VG to VG+ (this has some marks but this plays through without skips, the music to the fore!).
