Offered for sale is a copy of the limited-edition, half-speed mastered pressing of Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive, pressed by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs in the mid-1990s.  This copy is number 910 of a limited edition.

You couldn't escape hearing Frampton Comes Alive in the mid to late 1970's; the album was ubiquitous.  Recorded when Frampton was the opening act of a three band bill, the album so captured the essence of his live show that the label, A&M, insisted that the intended single album be expanded to a two record set. 

The album sold millions of copies and is something you'll find in the collection of nearly everyone of a certain age.  It's also a terrific live recording, with fat, airy, stereo sound.

At the time of its release, Frampton Comes Alive! was an anomaly, a multi-million-selling (mid-priced) double LP by an artist who had previously never burned up the charts with his long-players in any spectacular way. The biggest-selling live album of all time, it made Peter Frampton a household word and generated a monster hit single in "Show Me the Way." And the reason why is easy to hear: the Herd/Humble Pie graduate packed one hell of a punch on-stage -- where he was obviously the most comfortable -- and, in fact, the live versions of "Show Me the Way," "Do You Feel Like I Do," "Something's Happening," "Shine On," and other album rock staples are much more inspired, confident, and hard-hitting than the studio versions.

This pressing by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs captures the essence of that live recording and presents it with a beautiful pressing on high-quality vinyl.

Every title ever issued by Mobile Fidelity is collectible in its own right; their pressings from 1978 through 1989 were pressed in Japan by JVC on their proprietary Super Vinyl, an exceptionally resilient, dead-quiet vinyl compound. These records were mastered at half speed; both the tape and the cutting lathe were run at half the normal speed, allowing the cutting head to cut a more accurate groove in the acetate.  The finished product featured dead-quiet vinyl, with improved dynamics, better imaging, and tighter bass.  Later pressings from the 1990s were pressed by RTI on heavier, 200 gram vinyl.  By their very nature, all of Mobile Fidelity's titles were limited-edition pressings, and Frampton Comes alive was issued in a series of numbered copies.  The album sold out in a matter of just a few months.

These LPs have been played no more than twice, and aside from a spindle mark or two, are nearly perfect.  They come with their original rice paper inner sleeves.

The gatefold cover is in M- condition, and looks practically new.  This copy is stamped numer 910 in a limited edition series.

If you're looking for a really great pressing of a terrific live album with a fairly low number, this is the copy for you.  Frampton Comes Alive remains an iconic album in rock history and it's one that belongs in every collection.
