Ladies and Gentleman - welcome to a truly interdenominational Christmas! (this is the Christmas ALBUM even Osama could love – well, almost). We always found it rather entertaining that one of the most heartfelt and beautiful - not to mention original - Christmas albums ever recorded came from a Jewish guy in his early 20’s. Not only did this unorthodox attempt at mixing Christmas with Brooklyn aesthetics circa 1963 survived, it aged with such infinite grace that it became a perennial Christmas classic. This is the original PHILLES records issue of this album; the insanely rare first pressing on the pale blue Philles label. The wall of sound - a production method patented by Phil Spector (which involved - inter alia - torturing the artists for maximum effect: just ask Tina Turner who was tormented so badly during the recording of "River Deep, Mountain High" that her tight bra fell apart) - does not get any more vivid or palpable than here. This is a proverbial fortress of sound, consisting of multitude of overlapping layers of voices, sound effects, cascades of rhythm and ornamentation, AND IT COMES IN ITS ORIGINAL, GLORIOUS , BACK-TO-MONO version. A joyful, luscious, retrogressive, a*al-retentive, guilty-pleasure joy of Christmas past. Phil Spector is king!!! A KILLER ALBUM BY THE, UM…KILLER ARTIST…

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, this album was voted one of top-100 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted in 1987 by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (click here for the complete album listing)

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(d)            Minor writing (small black marker stroke) noted on one of two labels on the record.

(e)             True Stereo ORIGINAL pressings of this album are NOT known to exist (reissues DO exist in stereo).

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NEAR MINT !

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners.

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-         Cover has a small quality control (inspection) stamp on the back panel

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents
