PHIL SPECTOR’S “Hey Little Girl”

VERY RARE 7” PUBLISHER ACETATE

ARTIST: No name on the label but said to be Ray Sharpe

TITLE: “Hey Little Girl” *plus the sheet music that originally came with the acetate. This may very well be the only remaining copy of the acetate in existence. The label bears the typewritten title of the song along the the name and address for the Aaron Schroeder Publishing Company. A true Spector collectible!

From the book “Out Of His Head” by Richard Williams: 

“It is certain that, between 1960 and 1962, Spector made many other records, some of which may never be definitively identified. He called them “those silly records”, and in at least one case he was right. That was a single by Ray Sharpe (who recorded previously for the Trey and Jamie labels), cut for the Garex label in the early Sixties. It was a song called “Hey Little Girl”, and it was really one of the silliest things you could imagine, a novelty tune with a skiffle feeling which never made any impact. The only surprise is that it took two such considerable talents as Spector and Ritchie Barrett (former lead singer with the Valentines as well as Goldner’s talent scout) to write it. It seems to have been the only time they collaborated.”

CONDITION: Used but cared for and well preserved in my own personal collection for many years. This record is in its original generic paper sleeve. 

NOTES: 

Acetates are extra heavy discs, with the center of the record containing a layer made of metal, usually aluminum. These records are the first versions made from the master tapes (prior to test pressings or promo copies and are usually superior sounding) for the purpose of comment on the mix by the artist and producer. Sometimes the mixes can be slightly different or contain a different mix or edit from the final release. These were never meant to be available to the public. They were expensive to make so very few, if any, were made, making them very RARE and collectible.
