Condizioni : copertina laminata su entrambi i lati è in grande stato, MINT- / il vinile presenta pochi leggeri segni che non condizionano l'ascolto fatta eccezione per qualche minimo clicchettio. I fruscii e gli altri difetti che si ascoltano in "Le Gramophone" sono stati deliberatamente voluti, lasciando inalterato il suono logoro di un vecchio 78 giri; grande stato, EX+

Condition : laminated cover on both sides is in great shape, MINT- / vinyl has a few light signs which do not affect the listening except for some minimal clicks. The hiss and the other defects that are heard in "The Gramophone" were deliberately sought leaving unaltered the worn-out sound of an old 78's, EX+

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : la musica è costantemente pervasa da una struggente malinconia che apparentemente non diventa tragica ma resta come sospesa nell'aria al pari di una nuvola carica di pioggia che non libera il suo contenuto. Avvertiamo così il desiderio che questo deprimente stato d’animo si concluda in un modo o nell'altro, nel bene o nel male: una catarsi che ponga fine a una situazione che angoscia ma così non avviene. Quanto ora detto si riflette nella bella musica del film prevalentemente basata sul jazz, qui però non improntato alla libera improvvisazione dei bravissimi musicisti ma assoggettato alla trama claustrofobica del film. I brani hanno uno sviluppo ritmico lento fatta eccezione per il tema d'apertura (a1) in cui all'iniziale movimento sinfonico dell'orchestra fanno seguito ossessive percussioni che lasciano poi spazio ad una musica jazz un po' retrò. Pierre Dutour è trombettista jazz di grande classe ed i suoi assoli sono sempre emozionanti come in "The Bunker" (a2), "Liza" (b1) o "L'Avion" (b4). Particolarmente efficace il suo duetto con Stéphane Grappelli in "Melampo" (a3) ricco di splendide evoluzioni musicali del violinista. Cito ancora "Retour dans l'Île" (a4) tema dove clarinetto e basso con il supporto di un'orchestra intensamente ispirata riescono magnificamente a raffigurare le distese del mare e "Le Départ" (b5) con l'ottimo Raymond Le Sénéchal al pianoforte, il bassista François Rabbath e Hubert Rostaing al clarinetto che danno vita a un bel brano jazz. Un'ultima annotazione "Le Grammophone" (a5) in versione strumentale altro non è che la celeberrima, almeno qui in Italia, "Creola", composta nel 1926 da Ripp pseudonimo di Luigi Miaglia. Si tratta di un tango malinconico direttamente registrato da un vecchio 78 giri e in cui, come ho già accennato parlando delle condizioni del vinile, sono stati volutamente lasciati se non addirittura enfatizzati i tipici difetti di rumore e fruscio che si possono ascoltare in un disco di tanti anni prima e molto usato.

Notes : the music is constantly pervaded by a poignant melancholy that seemingly does not become tragic but remains as hanging on the air like a rain cloud which does not release its contents. So we can feel the desire that this depressing mood has to end up in one way or another, for better or for worse: a catharsis that puts an end to a distressing situation but it does not happen. What I said is reflected in the beautiful music of the film mainly based on jazz, here, however, not marked by the free improvisation of talented musicians, but subject to the claustrophobic movie plot. The tracks have a slow rhythmic development except for the opening theme (a1) in which the initial symphonic movement of orchestra is followed by obsessive percussions which then give way to slightly old-fashioned jazz. Pierre Dutour is jazz trumpeter of first class and his solos are always exciting as in "The Bunker" (a2), "Liza" (b1) or "L'Avion" (b4). Especially effective his duet with Stéphane Grappelli in "Melampo" (a3) with the violinist in splendid music virtuosities. I mention even "Retour dans l'Île" (a4) theme wherein bass and clarinet with the support of an intensely inspired orchestra succeed beautifully to depict the sea expanses and "Le Départ" (b5) featuring the excellent Raymond Le Sénéchal at the piano, bassist François Rabbath and Hubert Rostaing on clarinet who give life to a beautiful jazz piece. One final remark "Le Gramophone" (a5) in instrumental version is none other than the well-known, at least here in Italy, "Creola", composed in 1926 by Ripp aka Luigi Miaglia. It is a gloomy tango directly recorded from an old 78 rpm and in which, as I already mentioned talking about the condition of the vinyl, the typical defects of noise and hiss that can be listened in a well-worn disc of many years before have been deliberately left or even emphasized.
