PIANO BLUES
1927 - 1933




In 1965 Riverside Records in England started a ‘Classic Jazz Masters’ series that brought many rare 78rpm sessions to Lp for the very first time. The albums came in gatefold jackets, with multiple pages of descriptive notes and lyrics, and a back cover filled with recording details.

This record is one of their first releases in the series and as a focus on piano driven blues and hot jazz. The tracks here come from the catalogues of Paramount, and Champion. A 1966 review of this Lp is included. It begins “This is a magnificent Lp by any standard. Not only are some of the tracks collectors items and extremely rare (the Turner Parris titles, for example), but the musical content is very high….”

This vintage blues album is from the personal collection of blues researcher / writer Mack McCormick and is being sold to raise some needed funds for the Texas Musicians Museum. We appreciate any help in our mission to preserve music.
