A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

This very early UK pressing is in excellent condition and the vast majority plays with superb audio.  Unlike many the gatefold is also in great condition as is the lyric inner.

The vinyl is in excellent condition and retains a very healthy glossy sheen.  There are no scratches and only a small number of faint hairlines with only a couple that are slightly more obvious.  There is not that much spindle wear so I would say this record has certainly not been overplayed.

Play grading  

As any Floyd fan knows trying to find an original 'Momentary Lapse...' LP with a 'Signs Of Life' that plays perfectly is near impossible.  However, whilst there is some crackle on the intro it is only relatively light and once the keyboards cut in the audio is actually very clear.  As you progress there is still a little 'background' but from the half way mark the audio is extremely impressive with no obvious interference and it remains like this to end.  'Learning To Fly' is stunning and has no 'background', no clicks, pops, or crackle, just a little static on the fade out.  You would be hard pressed to find a better version and the depth of the music is 'high end', a great strong bass sound and grades as Near Mint in my opinion.  'The Dogs Of War' has a few light static clicks on the intro but as soon as the vocal begins the audio is superb.  It continues in the same way and there is no obvious 'background'.  The instrumental section is so strong and plays with no distortion.  To the final note it plays with exceptional clarity and power.  The quiet intro on 'One Slip' plays with great clarity also and only the odd mega light dust tick.  As the track 'gets going' the depth and definition of the audio is superb.  There is no interference and I would grade this as Mint- and even the fade out plays with perfect precision.  'On The Turning Away' has some light static on the intro but still plays very clearly and disappears at the end of the fourth line anyway.  Thereafter the audio is breathtakingly good and plays with dynamic power and clarity.  There is only a handful of light dust ticks in the mid quiet section and the following guitar solo, as you would hope, is absolutely divine!  Again there is no distortion - it demands being turned up to full blast!  There is no lessening in sound quality and the long fade out also plays clearly right to the end with no static.  A fantastic version!

Again as is so often the case with this album 'Yet Another Movie' has some static/light crackle on the quiet intro.  It is certainly the case that not as much care was taken in producing vinyl in the late 80s as (bizarrely!) it was a dying medium then.  As soon as the music properly begins the quality is superb and I only heard one click.  The instrumental section in particular is fabulous and the depth and range cannot be beaten.  It plays in exemplary style to the end.  'Round And Around' is so often affected by interference but there is only a little static on the intro and fade out here.  'A New Machine P1' is very impressive and plays with a lot less 'background' than usual.  A hint of quiet static every now and then but nothing intrusive that's for certain.  'Terminal Frost' is a fantastic highlight and is Mint from the very first groove.  That powerful middle section is just mind-blowing and plays as well as the day when first released back in '87.  You can turn it up loud with no fear of distortion, what an immaculate version!  The long quiet fade out is Mint also.  'A New Machine P2' plays with wonderful clarity and barely any static.  'Sorrow' has only a few light static sounds for the first few seconds and the rest of the intro is very clean.  It then plays with a superb deep rich sound and has no interference at all.  This is a 'high end' version and will not disappoint.  It plays in stunning style and whilst there may be just a little distortion on the instrumental section towards the end it is only minor.  There is also a little static on the fade out.  Overall though a very impressive side with only minimal 'background'.

The Gatefold

This is certainly one of the most impressive versions of this cover that I have seen in a long time.  The edges are in superb condition with only a couple of small 'rubs' on the top edge and the wide spine is in fantastic order with no wear at all.  The corners are also mega clean with barely any rubbing and the opening edge has hardly any handling wear also.  The front cover is incredibly clean and has no marking, just a small number of faint creases next to the spine.  The back cover if anything is even better and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate, 'as new'.  Overall this is a fantastic example of this gatefold and will not disappoint.

Lyric sleeve

This is in superlative condition and has no splits or tears and no rubbing of the edges.  It couldn't be any cleaner!

The labels

They are both extremely clean with no marking or writing and only a small amount of spindle wear.
