A Momentary Lapse Of Reason (Limited edition on White Vinyl with large Poster)

This is the rare French only 'special tour souvenir edition' from 1988 and is pressed on white vinyl.  It also includes two extra inserts - a double-sided fold out 'Versailles 1988' full colour poster and a wraparound 'Versailles 1988' picture insert.  The gatefold is still largely enclosed within the original shrinkwrap so the wraparound insert has never been removed!

The Limited Edition white vinyl is visually stunning and a full grading is given below.  The gatefold has never been opened due to it still being inside the shrinkwrap.

This vinyl is in superb condition and there are no scratches or markings.  I can only detect a couple of minor hairlines on  both sides although due to its colour they are extremely difficult to pick up.  There is no spindle wear on S1 and only a minimal amount on S2 so I imagine it has only ever been very lightly played.  The labels and run out grooves are also very clean.  A superb example of this now hard to find album.

Play grading  

As per the UK edition 'Signs Of Life' will always have some interference and it is just a matter of how much.  The intro here does have some static and crackle but there are no loud clicks or pops.  Once the music 'starts' the music plays clearly but there is still some static to be heard and it continues like this to the end of the track.

'Learning To Fly' plays with superb audio from the first note to the last and unlike the previous track has no intrusive 'background' of any kind.  The clarity is stunning and the depth of the audio is very impressive also.  This grades as Near Mint without doubt.

'The Dogs Of War' intro has only a little static and as the track progresses the audio is stunning, any static has largely disappeared.  The instrumental section is so powerful and plays without distortion.  Wow!  There is a minimal amount of static after this section but the final verse then plays with superb quality and no interference.  Overall a very impressive of this track with no clicks or pops.

The quiet intro on 'One Slip' has only minimal static and thereafter plays to near perfection with wonderful depth and clarity.  There is no 'background' apart from a couple of static ticks on the fade out.

'On The Turning Away' has a minimal amount of static on the intro and as the vocal begins the playback is hugely impressive.  It continues in the same way and the verses play with amazing clarity and not one single or pop and only a couple of light static sounds.  The quiet mid section is stunning and as the volume increases the playback could not be any clearer.  There is just no interference and the guitar solo is so powerful and has no distortion.  To the end it plays with great depth and power and the long fade out has only a couple of static ticks at the end.  A stunning version overall.

'Yet Another Movie' has only a little static on the intro but there is some crackle after about 20 seconds that lasts until the music properly begins.  It then plays well but again there is a little static in the background and a couple of light clicks also.  The verses then play superbly with great depth and power and no intrusive interference.  You can turn it up loud and there is no distortion at all, the power is immense!  There are just a minimal amount of static on the end section.

'Round And Around' also has some crackle I'm afraid but at least there are no loud clicks or pops.

'A New Machine - Part 1' also has some crackle but is not as intrusive and the music still plays clearly for such a quiet track.

'Terminal Frost' plays with excellent clarity from the very start.  There is barely any static and as the music builds towards the mid instrumental section the audio continues to play impressively.  The louder mid section then plays fantastically well with immense power and the sax section is just stunning.  The remainder plays to the same standard with only minor static at the very end.  A very impressive version!

'A New Machine - Part 2' has very clear audio and only a minimal amount of light static, nothing intrusive.

The intro on 'Sorrow' plays extremely well with only the odd light static sound.  The guitar work is so strong and it plays with such strong, deep audio.  The next section plays faultlessly as do the vocals and there are no clicks or pops at all.  Every verse plays with the same distinction and there is nothing that detracts from the wonderful quality of the audio.  The guitar end section is stunning with no obvious distortion and there is then barely any static on the fade out.  A superb version overall.

In summary this Limited Edition plays with excellent audio but there are some issue most notably on S2 where there is some static and crackle during some sections of the first three tracks.  They are still eminently playable but obviously do not expect perfect audio.  As per the grading though there are many sections on both sides that play with superb quality.  The gatefold and lyric inner are in great condition and the large poster is 'as new'.

The Gatefold

As stated the shrinkwrap is still firmly attached so the gatefold cannot be opened.  The edges and wide have no rubs or markings and there is only a minor amount of rubbing on the corners.  The opening edge has only very minimal handling wear.  A very impressive cover with no obvious wear.

Lyric sleeve & Posters

The lyric inner is in superb condition and has no splits or tears and no rubbing of the edges.  Unlike the standard issue it is made with thin paper.  Both posters are in perfect order and of course the wraparound one has never been handled as it is still beneath the shrinkwrap.

The labels

They have no marking or writing and barely any spindle wear.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
