Description
ANIMALS A3/B2
In a word this very early pressing is stunning! It is as close to Mint as you will find the quality is that good. I play test all my rare vinyls and as my grading below testifies this A3/B2 pressing is one of the best I have ever seen and heard, perhaps the best. There is no spindle wear on Side One and just a little on Side Two suggesting that the vinyl has been barely played. The gatefold is also the best I have ever seen, it is in immaculate condition.
A2/B2 were the very first matrix numbers and the A3/B2 ones followed soon after and were pressed in relatively low numbers making it even more collectible. Take a look at pinkfloydarchives.com and you will see what I mean.
A fantastic opportunity to own this LP that is practically like new!
I am also selling an A2/B3 pressing of this LP

Visual grading
Under a strong bright light I cannot detect any hairlines or scratches. It goes without saying that this vinyl has been hardly played. It wasn't to everyone's taste so you do find these rare gems every now and then although it is now regarded as one of Floyd's underrated classics and is highly collectible. Visually it is absolutely stunning and is amazing to think it is nearly 40 years old. Unsurprisingly it retains that wonderful glossy sheen of new vinyl.
Play grading
'Pigs on the Wing1' begins Side One with hardly any lead in static and what you can hear is barely audible. The whole side plays with a depth and clarity that would be almost impossible to beat. It honestly sounds as if it pressed/purchased yesterday such is the quality of the audio. You always expect a little static with brand new LPs and here with a vinyl approaching 40 years there is hardly any interference. The audio plays with such a resonance and richness it belies its age. This is why we buy vinyl! It simply wins hands down compared to other music formats.
'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' begins with absolute minimal static. It then plays with the same depth and quality as Side One. I cannot stress just how good the audio is on this LP! I listened to every last second of it and was blown away with the quality. I doubt if it has been played more than a handful of times and perhaps never! How often do you find a very early pressing like this? The intro to 'Sheep' is very quiet and yet there is hardly any static to speak of. The guitar led ending to the track plays with a little distortion perhaps but this does not take away from the quality of the vinyl. Listening to this LP was pure unadulterated audio pleasure! 'Pigs On The Wing2' ends proceedings with stunningly clear sound, amazing audio for such a quiet track.
Gatefold cover
As stated earlier this is probably the best original G & L gatefolds I have seen for this LP. The edges and wide spine are in superb condition. The front and back cover are amazingly clean and there is only very minor rubbing on the top two edges. A couple of minor indentations but other than that there are no faults and this is as near to perfection as you can get. As you can see from the photos it is practically as new.
It has no bar code as per the first presses and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder. In the lower right corner, it says: "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
Lyric sleeve
The cardboard lyric inner has the rounded corners as per first pressings. What is so rare is that this one does not have any splits to the sides, so common with this sleeve. There is just one small crease on the bottom right of the reverse side, a couple of other very minor creases and a few very minor indentations running down one edge but only visible under a certain light.
It has the 9-inch notch on the edge that opens and in the lower right corner is the catalogue number "SHVL 815(I)"
Labels
Practically as new there is almost no spindle wear as stated earlier.
