PINK FLOYD. DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. 1ST PRESS. SHVL 804 A2/B2. SOLID BLUE TRIANGLE. GATEFOLD COVER WITH POLY-LINED BLACK INNER SLEEVE. COMPLETE WITH ALL POSTERS AND STICKERS. VG+ TO EX.

Every so often I help a local hospice sell its more collectable LPs on ebay. Just in is a fresh batch which includes some highly prized LPs. Each LP I list will be played in its entirety before listing to give an accurate analysis of its audio condition.

My listening equipment is a highly revealing Roksan Xerxes/Artemiz/Shiraz turntable, JDI pre/power amplification and Castle speakers.

Played on that system, this LP grades VG+ (maybe even EX). It has one flaw and luckily this occurs in the run-in groove of side one - a couple of quick, sharp, fuzzy noises -which stop before the heartbeats and music begins. There's some very minor background noise to some quiet parts and the occasional soft tick  - the type that could be removed by cleaning on a professional record cleaning machine. There's a touch more minor background noise to parts of the last track on side one, but it's not intrusive and is only mentioned for accuracy. Side two is pretty much the same and has just a few soft ticks to "Us and Them". The record gets at least a VG+ and could grade even higher with a professional vacuum record clean. Visually, the vinyl looks excellent with just a couple of hairlines and tiny marks which are of no audio consequence.

In the photo of the naked vinyl you can see a reflection of some frosted glass at the 3 o'clock postion in the dead wax. I'll repeat, this is just a reflection.

I cannot say for certain whether the gatefold cover is original or not. I initially thought it was but I cannot be 100% sure. In the final photograph you can see it compared to a later cover. This cover has a lighter, colour than the black of later covers - it's also made of a heavier stock and has more of a matt finiish. Both sides open, but it could be that the left side has been deliberately opened to safely store the posters and stickers. The cover has a certain amount of wear, but I still grade it very good. I'll point out its minor flaws: it has some slight rubbing along the top and bottom edges and corners; there's a slight indentation mark - visible in photo 3 - which only shows up in angled light; there's a very tiny bend to the top right corner. I'm only mentioning these for total accuracy - I believe the photos represent the condition exactly.

It comes complete with 2 posters and 2 stickers. The posters have never been mounted and they and the stickers are in pristine condition.
