PINK FLOYD The Dark Side Of The Moon
This is the Ultra rare 1973 UK first pressing 10-track LP with SOLID PRISM labels with silver lettering, Gramophone Co. perimeter text. This has A3/B2 matrices and has the well known pressing fault, whereit skips a couple of times during the song Money.
This pressing has a single right-side pocket opening only and displays a distinct green colour tinge unlike the jet black print of later issues, also includes the black poly lined inner, two stickers & two matt posters marked SHVL804 Stereo.
Pressings that use A-2 / B-2 lacquers have minor sound quality issues, particularly during the song, Money. Some copies also have a skip pressed into the grooves during the song Money.
Such issues were corrected with the A-3 / B-3 cuttings, with the exception of the peak level distortion during the clocks at the beginning of the song Time (the MFSL UHQR LP is the only vinyl pressing without such distortion).
Copies of the Dark Side of the Moon LP with solid blue triangle labels without any stamper or mother numbers in the matrix are not U.K. releases (they are likely from Denmark). All U.K. EMI releases will have some sort of stamping code in the matrix.
The sleeve as mentioned above is the early version with just the back section of the gatefold open. These sleeves have a noticable slight green tinge, but has no sticker on the front. The inner left logo text is in blue.
This copy shows some quite noticeable general shelf wear with edge scuffing and remains in very acceptable condition. There’s a ring marker on the back of the LP from storage.
The inner is the correct black poly lined variety that appeared on both the first & second issues.
The stickers & posters both display little wear & signs of age. Both have the CrackBack and FastPrint backings on them, untouched, intact. Both posters are present. One has some discolouration that seems to have come from storage. The other was in a poly-sleeve when I purchased the album and as such has minimal discolouration.
The album has been graded as VG, down to some quite significant scratches on the vinyl. I’ve listened through this entire album many times and the only major issues are Money and On The Run. All photographed for proof.
I’m parting with this and hoping a collector or someone who wants to listen to it more, as it’s not one I really listen to anymore.
Overall a very good example of this now very sought after pressing. These do not come up for sale very often, and this copy is available at a very advantageous price.
This has been in my collection since I began collecting records and was deemed “essential” and as such I bought it. What started as a great essential is no longer needed in my collection and as such I’ve decided to move it on.
