Description
An original demonstration disc used to promote the issue of PINK FLOYD's very first single. Contained within the rather distinctive picture sleeve announcing it to be "THE NEXT PROJECTED SOUND OF '67". The A-Side is, of course, ARNOLD LAYNE and the B-Side is CANDY AND A CURRANT BUN. On the Columbia label, dated 10th MARCH 1967, reference DB 8156.
The Matrix info is as follows:- On the labels, 7XCA 27877, 7XCA 27878 and Tax Code 'KT' visible in centre of the A-Side. Stamped into the vinyl - 7XCA 27877-1 on A-Side, 7XCA 27878-1 on B-Side. On both sides, the Stamper Letter G at 3 o'clock, the Mother Number 1 at 9 o'clock and the Tax Code KT at noon.
As I understand it, this Stamper Letter demonstrates the record comes from the VERY FIRST STAMPER and this Mother Number shows it was made from THE FIRST MOTHER. (I have no idea what that last sentence means, but I believe it's supposed to be quite significant to collectors)
The vinyl shows some surface marks, the sleeve signs of wear and seam-splitting, as can be seen on the scans, but both ARE over 40 years old. The disc plays very well, however, in my humble opinion, but, once again, it WAS recorded using 40-years-old technology and played back on 21st Century equipment, so what do I know?
Well, I DO know it's a rare, desirable, collectable item!
